We had the good fortune of connecting with Dessirree Galloway and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dessirree, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I had to make was deciding to quit my corporate job to start my own business. My passion for braiding hair was taking over my mind. My scores were going down, I was making careless mistakes, and I didn’t enjoy what I had been doing for 3 years anymore. Leaving my job meant that I would lose a lot of vacation time, my health and dental benefits, and consistent pay checks every two weeks. After my mother passed away, I knew in my heart that she would tell me to follow my heart. So in June 2017, I resigned from my job and a month later, I started my own business!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Braiding hair brings me such joy! On many occasions, it still shocks me to see the end results like WOW, I really did THAT! I love meeting new people! You never know what you may have in common with someone. To me, its not just a job, its my passion! What sets me apart from others is my attention to detail! My clients always make fun of me when its time for me to part their hair. I will take all day to make sure those parts are right! LOL! There has been many of challenges throughout the years. I wanted to give up so many times but, I had to change my way of thinking as to why I started my business in the first place. I want the world to know that if I could do it, so can you!!!!As a business owner, I am most proud of my journey. It has molded me to be more than I could’ve ever dreamed! I’ve learned from my past, thankful for my present, and excited for my future!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh Man! I don’t know where to start! I’m still learning my way around Houston. My family and I relocated here 5 years ago! I know, I know! You would think that I would know a lot by now right??? LOL! Let me see what I can do! I would definitely take her to the Turkey Leg Hut, Culvers, Italianos, and the taco trucks! bowling, shopping, Top Golf, Dave and Busters, and the gun range is a must! Houston is such a great city! Seems like anywhere you go, you are bound to have a good time!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
GOD, I owe everything to You. Where would I be without You? Thank You for blessing me with such a talent and gift. It has and will continue to take me places far beyond anything I could ever dream of. Chad, I love you with every fiber of my being. I can’t put it into words how much I appreciate you. What a blessing it is to be able to call you my Husband. Thank you for being my rock, my best friend, and my personal mannequin! LOL! Kamani, it is such an honor and joy to be your mommy! Thank you for being my reason to never give up, my little helper, (Yes, she knows how to braid too! Go Kamani!) and the best daughter in my world. Mommy and Jittabug(Granny), thank you both for everything you’ve taught me. I know you are both in heaven smiling down! It’s only up from here! Watch me work! To my family, friends, and clients, thank you for all the love and support you have given me!
