We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Graham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born and raised in Arizona and started hair school while I was in high school at a school called EVIT. It was then when I realized how much Iove and passion I had for hair and the science of it all. I wanted to finish my 1600 hours a bit quicker, I did what’s called AM class (first four hours) and would go back to high school mid day then once high school classes done there I drove back to the PM class to finish off there another (4 hours).. I was determined and loved every moment of learning about hair. EVIT cosmetology school voted for me to be the class president and spoke at the cosmetology graduation for senior year. I just loved it so much, Being a team leader, serving, helping others, and just overall being a good friend to everyone. I have always had a entrepreneurial hustle and drive in me to find my passion and career and once I found it, I just ran with it and made me who I am today.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I specialize in sunkissed beach hair and to achieve it, I use a technique called baby lighting & teasy lights. I started teaching and educating Olaplex in our salon. Then started working with extensions to not only give the client their dream hair color they have always wanted, but also the extensions to get to their desired length, thickness and volume they always wanted that our natural hair can’t always do. Hair extensions helps with you reach your goals and helps keep your natural hair healthy.
I got really sick after my second baby and doctors asking me if I had a will. It was devastating to think that all my love and passion in the hair industry was coming to an end. All the learning and money towards education was all thrown away and that I’ll have to be done with hair completely. I could hardly even function on day to day tasks so there was no way I could work. It ripped me apart thinking I’ll never be able to heal and feel better. Overtime with trust in god and praying, I found the right doctors for me to help me figure out the issues I was having and help me heal and continue to heal with eating clean.
I have learned to never give up and to keep pushing past your hard times. It’s not easy but so worth it. If you are struggling with losing your hair like I was and want to feel confident again, extensions are your best friend. It’s magic and you can’t tell if it’s extensions or your real hair or where your extensions actually start. It’s truly a game changer. I came up with my own signature method and teach my method around the U.S. I also have my own hair extension line now with highest quality hair and 36 stunning colors, Sunkissed Strands. The painless method and hair extensions have helped many women feel better about themselves no matter the struggles you have going on.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Stewart beach! We love the beach so much it’s our family’s favorite. Surfing, boogie boarding, family picnics, eating açaí bowls, and just simply relaxing listening to the ocean waves and smell of the salty air. Something about the beach is so relaxing and healing. We feel completely rejuvenated after a day at the ocean under the sun.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I learned alongside Chrissy Rasmussen at Habit Salon. The work ethic and drive to succeed and what it takes to hustle.
