We had the good fortune of connecting with Dorian The Dog Guy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dorian, why did you pursue a creative career?
When I got honest with myself, I realized it was the only way I could help people & create a life for myself. One that came anywhere near what I’d already imagined in my head at least.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe one major factor that sets me apart from my counterparts, is my motivation. My main motivation isn’t animal related at all, it’s been serving a largely ignored community to best of my ability. Which is black women pet owners. I love helping everyone, of course, however being raised predominately by the women in my family gave me a close & upfront look at the long term effects of underserving this community. I am most proud of the impact i’ve been able to make in so many people’s lives, while staying true to childhood dream.
I have no idea how I got where I am professionally, honestly. Possibly by keeping an open mind, and trusting that each decision is leading me closer to my purpose, or the next person I can help.
No, it has not been easy. I’ve been able to overcome by leaning on those around me, embracing my obstacles, and absorbing the lessons each obstacle has gifted me.
Some of the lessons i’ve learned along the way are…….
1. Any idiot can complicate something, it takes intelligence to keep things simple.
2. Its always the little things that cause the biggest headaches.
3. Dog’s speak a universal language, that can change the energy is any space within seconds.
4. The importance of staying true to myself, especially when I find it difficult to.
I want the world to know that I’m just getting started, and that I have so much more to offer. Not just to my community, but for dog owners/handlers as a whole.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many dope people that have helped me along my way. The two people responsible for the majority of my growth are my mother, Michele & my mentor, Lorenzo Miller. I also want to thank Lorenzo’s Dog Training Team for being my home away from home for years. I also have to shout out my OG Black crown team. Without their help, support, & accountability as a young charismatic but very inexperienced entrepreneur; I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish half of the things I did without them.
