We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Charlotte Baker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Charlotte, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Working with my Aunt at an early age with her wedding company was the seed that was initially planted. While in graduate school I would plan and coordinate events for students and for organizations. A light bulb went off and I began to pray for a business name so I could make money and stop doing it for charity. While sitting at the computer in the lab I was inspired to type Heaven’s Touch of Glory and it was manifested. I moved in faith and have been “touching” events since then.
Please tell us more about your business. How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Heaven’s Touch of Glory is a wedding planning and event planning company that offers unlimited services to complete your event. With custom-designed floral arrangements or trendsetting décor, we strive to perfect your event with excellence and expertise. Our vision is to give you the event you have always dreamed of that reflects your unique personality and style. With a PhD in Environmental Toxicology and work history as a Forensic Toxicologist, this has allowed me to have a keen eye for detail. With Heaven’s Touch of Glory not only do you get to enjoy the experience of the day but the journey that I take with you will leave a lasting impression that clients will cherish always. My motto is, “It’s more than just the day of…but the total experience!” I have had many challenges while conducting business. I am a cancer survivor and had to battle cancer while “touching” events. Can you imagine going through chemo while still conducting business? What was I thinking? I overcome challenges by aligning my faith in God. Without him I am nothing! One main lesson I have learned is a closed mouth does not get fed. I used to be scared to ask others in the industry for help due to the fear of being rejected. I am big on education, so I found ways to get educated in the industry and this has allowed me to meet others that were willing to help me succeed. I am a believer in providing excellence and exceeding what the client can envision. I want the world to know that an event is one day but the experience that leads to the one day is the joy. During that time, a relationship is developed between me and the client.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am not the best person to hang out with because I am focused on working fulltime and pushing my business. I do love to eat so the itinerary would be full of eating spots such as Turkey Leg Hut, Frenchy’s Chicken, Taste Bar and Kitchen (I am still trying to get there), Fogo De Chao, Perry’s Steakhouse, and/or Steak 48.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I am grateful that God has blessed me with my gift. I recognize without him the success that I have will not be possible. I am grateful for my Aunt planting the initial seed although at that time I complained. I am grateful for my mom instilling in me to work hard and teaching me that nothing in life comes easy. My Pastor is always pushing me out of my comfort zone. My team that goes above and beyond for all my events. My team pushes me when I am about to throw in the towel. My vendors, family, and friends are great supporters.
