We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Chi Mba and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Chi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After working at different dental offices during the course of my career, I had the need to do things differently. I felt the need for improvement of patients quality care and access to dental emergency. None of these goals could be achieved unless I opened and managed my own practice. Therefore, I set out to open my own practice.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I did allude earlier about improved patient’s quality care and emergency access. My mission is to make sure that patients are not treated as ” numbers”. At Chi Family Dental, we deliver customized care. I love being a dentist but I have dental anxiety as a person. I feel that patients like myself need a a little bit more patient and education. I put together information as doctor from patient’s point of view in a book I published “Overcoming Dental Anxiety by Dr. Chi Mba” to help patients navigate their fear. As a former college professor, education is my passion. I spend time with my patients to educate them about their oral care and the need for their treatment. I educate them on how to continue with home care. I listen to their concerns. I have realized that many people were not taught how to effectively brush their teeth. I give enough time to my patients to ask and answer all their questions. I am continuously educating myself on the latest techniques and equipment to deliver state-of -the -art treatments to my patients. We use lazer hand pieces and digital Xrays etc which minimize pain, exposure and ensures comfort to our patients. One of our signature procedures are the digital teeth scans and same day crown and bridge delivery. These eliminate the “gooey impressions” and improved aesthetics and time. One of the other ways that we standout is our availability. There are no real dental emergency rooms per say, but we have filled in the gap in our area as much as we can. We are one of the few Dental offices that open late and on Saturdays. Patients can reach me almost any time. They can message me through my office or the different social media platforms. I would hate to have emergency room fill up with dental emergencies if I am available to help especially during this pandemic. I am proud of my team and we are excited every morning to meet the incredible patients that have entrusted us with their care. We are blessed to have the amazing support of our patients especially the women in our community who tell others about their wonderful experiences with our practice. Our practice is about 3 years old. Being one of the newest practice in the area, we probably have less patients but I am happy with our progress. I have learned that when you do good, good will come back to you and vice versa. Chi Family Dental has my name because I believe in it. I am not here just to “do teeth”, I am here to build a relationship with my community. We also say”at Chi Family Dental, we make dental anxiety a thing of the past”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It’s hard to say now because of the COVID pandemic. I am a health nerd and a bit of a home body. Nonetheless, I enjoy Asian food and saunas. My favorite place now is V lotus because they offer takeouts. My favorite spa is Gangnam Spa. We will workout in my house or take a walk around the neighborhood. We will order takeout, visit the sauna and binge watch our favorite shows.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My greatest thanks will always be to God Almighty who has given me the opportunity to use my gifts and this wonderful career to help people everyday! Also, I could not be who I am today without the support of my family and friends. However, one special person that I will forever be grateful to is Dr. Kay Mash. She was one of my professors in dental school. Word could not express how essential she was during my dental school experience. I went to dental school as a mother of 5 children, so I was not a typical student. It was incredibly hard, but Dr. Mash was a pivotal force to my graduation. To this very day, she is both a mentor and a second mother to me.
