We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Paul Fortes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Paul, what matters most to you?
Integrity. Integrity is foundational to a life that is guided by a moral compass, and having a moral compass is important because without it you literally have no direction. In other words, knowing what is right and doing what is right are important.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart from other plastic surgeons is my ability to truly communicate with patients and understand their needs and desires. I take those insights and create a personalized plan, which I then execute with precision in the operating room. I love tailoring plans to each unique and individual patient, recognizing that plastic surgery is not a one-size-fits-all process. My goal is always to cater to what the patient wants and to deliver natural results.

I am incredibly proud of my plastic surgery career, which is the highlight of my professional life. After 20 years of education, I started my own private practice with a group of plastic surgeons and have been dedicated to this practice for 26 years. It certainly wasn’t easy. I faced numerous challenges, but I persevered and learned that I could overcome them.

The best lessons I’ve learned along the way are to be kind, be honest, always do my best, never cut corners, do what is right rather than what is convenient, and find the joy in every day.

What I want the world to know about me is that I am deeply passionate about what I do. I strive to always do my very best. I was blessed with certain talents that are God-given, and I have worked hard to develop them to their fullest. I use these talents in the practice of plastic surgery to ensure that my patients receive the best care and results they deserve.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The best places to check out would be:

-A long walk or bike ride at Memorial Park, Rice University, Hermann Park, or along Buffalo Bayou Park
-I love local hole-in-the-wall restaurants and gastropubs with different kinds of cocktails paired with fun, tasty, and interesting food. Two of my favorites are 8 Row Flint and Better Luck Tomorrow.
-Sushi at a couple of places like Uchi and Kata Robata.
-I would take them to Chinatown to experience the best diverse asian food in America.
-For high culture, I would take them to the MFA Houston and the Menil Museum.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my mother for being a fantastic supporter and parent. She is my only surviving parent. As a young mom she always put her personal needs aside in order to be a great mom and provider of guidance, love, and support for her kids.
