Meet Dulce and Gretchen: Co-Owners of The Hive

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dulce and Gretchen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dulce and Gretchen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting The Hive was a way for us to connect with other local small businesses, which was especially challenging during the pandemic, and try to reinvigorate the traditional brick and mortar shopping experience. By bringing together the unique and diverse products in such a warm environment, we sought to create that special feeling not just for our customers, but also our showroom partners. We feel like we are accomplishing this in The Hive. It’s truly something magical.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We work with 13 local small businesses in The Hive to stand up and highlight their wonderful, unique products! Obviously, we believe in shopping local and the benefits it brings the local communities speak for itself. Buy beyond that, our partners share special relationships with a variety of non-profit organizations. As The Hive, we love to support those organizations as well and use our platform and storefront to raise awareness and donations!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Rice Village is so much fun! There are so many stops to explore! I would first stop at Croissant Brioche for a cappuccino and a scrumptious chocolate almond croissant! We can’t forget about our furry friends so the next stop would be picking up something healthy for them at the 3 Dog Bakery. Next for a little personal therapy….retail therapy that is. And no better place for that in Rice Village than The Hive! A long day of shopping definitely works up an appetite, so to finish the day I would recommend a lovely Greek dinner with wine at Helen Greek Restaurant. What a lovely day!
