We had the good fortune of connecting with Dusten Nzoungou and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dusten, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My love and passion for the beauty industry, particularly makeup was the reason for pursing an artistic career. I wanted to be able to pursue a career where it felt more like a hobby than a chore. Makeup, for me started as an escape and it was a skill that I developed overtime as I always loved how makeup could enhance a woman’s beauty as well as provide an extra boost of confidence almost like a must-have accessory. With makeup, it allows me to channel and tap into my creative side in which I’m able to set a vision in place.
]Almost like a painter with a canvas. Also pursuing an artistic career inspired me to change the way I see the world and people from a different lens.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I got into Makeup Artistry about 4 years ago. It all started when I was starting out with my personal makeup journey and I was so discouraged because I was not satisfied with the way my makeup so I started watching tutorials, videos, and even read articles on the art of makeup. Eventually once my skills started to improve, I started doing makeup for people around me such as neighbors, family members, friends and etc. One day I finally decided take things seriously to the next step and took a formal makeup course where I would learn the proper skin prep and makeup techniques.

Of course, like any new business there comes great moments and then there comes a few challenges along the way. As anything in life, there are going to be ups and downs however the best way to overcome any challenges would be to stay consistent and to keep your eye on the prize. Another lesson that I learned along the way is to always be open to learning new things and establishing new relationships.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Favorite spots in the city:

Places to Eat- The Warwick and Kiss
Places to Drink- The Clarkwood Cocktail bar
Places to Visit-Downtown Aquarium and Buffalo Bayou Park

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to credit and shoutout my late Grandmother Irene for always inspiring and encouraging me to pursue my passions. I’d also like to dedicate my shoutout to my many clients and friends that continue to support my business and services and most importantly I’d like to thank God for making this all happen.
