We had the good fortune of connecting with Ebony Jefferson-Orupabo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ebony, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In todays’ society people can be motivated by many things. Fame, money, and freedom are a few. For some people, recognition or even competition. For me, I felt it was a call, a way to fulfill one of my purposes in life. I strongly believe that we are all created by God for a specific reason and a specific purpose. I often times would find myself miserable on my job and if others were honest, they are too. I was miserable because I was on a job that I was not supposed to be on. I knew God didn’t create me for just a job, I owed it to the myself, my family, and community to be who and do what I was created to be and do. That is when I knew it was time to start my own business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I truly believe that God called me to be a fashion designer and to own my very own boutique. It’s encouraging for me to know that the world needs me- the world needs fashion. Like the sky needs a rainbow after the sun. The two just work and so does fashion and design for me. The journey has not been easy, but worth it! I had to make the decision to choose faith over fear and that has helped to carry me through my journey. I want the world to know that my brand is not just for the outer appearance but it’s designed to help bring peace to the soul and everyone it reaches.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Down Town to Historical museums and paintings. We would travel with a tour guide to explore all the beautiful artifacts the city of Houston has to offer. Downtown Houston is an eclectic mix of commercial properties, high rise offices, and green spaces. Covering just under two square miles in the very heart of the city, it’s where skyscrapers rise above the spread of Houston itself like a cluster of massive stalagmites. Simply, to stay connected with our community and culture. First we would do the Double Decker Bus Tour, then Downtown Houston Tunnel System, and to cap the evening, The Turkey Leg Hut.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give credit to the Most High God. I brought my desires and concerns to him and he assured me he would have my back and I could trust and lean on him.
