We had the good fortune of connecting with Eleanora Cavatore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eleanora, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Federico and I both grew up in Houston but had the good fortune to travel in our younger days. We were exposed to other countries and cities within the US that had regular farmers markets and wanted to duplicate that ourselves.
We were inspired by the idea of having a community market that had local farmers and artisans selling their goods. We both love supporting small businesses and value entrepreneurship.
The Heights is a neighborhood that thrives on individuality while also having a strong neighborhood identity so we thought we’d try to make it work and here we are 6 years later still here every Saturday!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We got to where we are today by not giving up on our dream! We are always trying to improve the market and reach out to the best vendors we see to provide the most high quality products.
We care very much about giving back to the world so we often have nonprofit organizations that have booths and share their causes with the public.
We recently launched a Kid Entrepreneur program which allows kids to create and sell their products at the market. We try to come up with creative ideas to bring in and support the community.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Of course we would take them to Cavatore Italian restaurant because that’s my husband’s family’s restaurant and it offers delicious Italian food! I also love Roost, Hugo’s, the Menil Cafe and Kata Robata.
I’m a big arts person so I’d take them to the MFAH, the CAM and the Menil. We’d go for a yoga class at We Thrive yoga because it has the best vibe and teachers.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We’d like to give a shout out to Ana Cavatore for allowing us to start this business in the parking lot of Cavatore Italian restaurant. Without that space, the market wouldn’t exist!
We’d like to give a shout out to all our friends and family that have come out to shop locally-even when it’s 100 degrees outside.
Finally, we’d like to give a shout out to our vendors who demonstrate such courage in hustling every day to make their business dream come true. Thank you for trusting us with your “babies”!
