We had the good fortune of connecting with Elisabeth Shows and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elisabeth, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Choose Happy”! I really am a firm believer in that happiness is a choice and I wake up every morning and choose to be happy. I have a very positive outlook on life and this quote 100% describes my philosophy in life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have two careers and I love them equally. I am a nurse I do both NICU and labor and delivery and I absolutely love my career as a nurse. I have the amazing opportunity to photograph many of my micro premature babies as they reach new milestones. I also have volunteered at my old hospital to take Santa and easter bunny pictures with the tiny patients. I love being able to blend both of my careers. My second career as a photographer didn’t come as easily and learning to balance photography and my nursing career has not been without challenges but we are getting there. I am extremely excited about setting up my in-home studio this year! I love the option of being able to offer both in home newborn sessions or studio sessions. I am always learning, and the Greater Houston Professional Photography group has been an amazing resource in learning some of the more technical aspects of photography. I want everyone to be able to afford photography and since it is not my main source of income. I want everyone to know that I will work with any budget. I never want a family to miss out on a milestone or memories due to cost.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
During the day, we would hit the museums downtown especially the Houston Museum of Natural Science Museum, Moody Gardens is a must, Eleanor Tinsley Park with a nice picnic lunch to see the beautiful view of downtown, We would do some shopping in rice village and the galleria. Food wise there is so many amazing choices! I love Birraporetti downtown especially after a show at hobby center! I’m from Katy so we would have to do breakfast at both Tony’s in Sealy and Snappys in old Katy. Sushi Hana would also be a must! On the weekend we would have to hit Electric Feel good and Wonderbar.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Taylor, One of my best friends. I have known her since freshman year of high school! She has always encouraged me to do photography and to start a business out of it! She hired me to do her engagement pictures and bragged about me to anyone she meets. She even encouraged me to print business cards just so she could hand them out! I still to this day take her family of 5’s pictures every Christmas.
