We had the good fortune of connecting with Elvis Escobar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elvis, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“A business owner jumps off a cliff and grows their wings on the way down” – Unknown I’ve lived this every single day since I started my business. Learning from mistakes, solving problems on the fly, improvising when something new comes up, and not having answers to questions but somehow finding a solution. I’ve learned a lot about running a small business, building new and keeping existing relationships, marketing and presenting my physical and virtual self, and so much more that I was never be exposed to at my normal job or college. I still have a lot to learn, but I now approach challenges as growth opportunities rather than barriers.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I run a portrait studio, specializing in professional and headshot photography. Most of my clients are real estate professionals, sales men and women, newly hired corporate professionals, and businesses. In addition to sessions in my private studio, I offer an on-location option in which I setup an entire mobile studio with professional lighting and backdrop in one’s home or company’s office. This makes it convenient for those who don’t want to travel far, or for large offices who need large volume portraits. I use state-of-the-art capturing and lighting equipment, which result in hi-res detailed images. For post-processing, I use a combination of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to soften skin, reduce wrinkles, remove pimples, moles and scars, and clear up skin redness.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Places I’d take them to eat: – Mico’s Hot Chicken – Teotihuacan – El Taconazo – Taste of Texas – Killen’s BBQ Things we’d do: – Seismique – Pleasure Pier in Galveston – American Shooting Centers – Rent scooters in Downtown – All the museums in the museum district
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My roommates who were always happy to volunteer as my models, my colleagues who supported me when I left my firm to start my own business, my parents who always gas me up whether its a big or small win, my friends who look at my work and always encourage me to keep going, and lastly my friends who are hard on me, critique me, and keep me humble.
