Meet Emily Valdez | Makeup artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Valdez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Hi, thank you so much for having me, I’m super happy I got the chance to be a part of this interview. What makes me happy? Makeup. My work, being able to create and even recreate all the fun makeup trends I can find. Learning everyday from my mistakes and being able to recognize my wrongs for my next look and being able to master it after. I love expressing myself through my makeup, i can honestly say that doing my makeup or even doing other people’s makeup and seeing their happy faces afterwards, sets me free. Having my family by my side and being able to connect with them keeps me the happiest, listening to their advice, encouraging me to never give up.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently enrolled in Esthetician school at Aveda and I can honestly say it has been the best decision I have made in pursuing my career. I bought my first ever makeup palette when I was a sophomore in high school, kept doubting myself and over thinking until it got to a point where I asked everybody if I should do a makeup page to show off my different types of makeup looks and everybody kept motivating me and I finally did it. Just to look back and see where I was and how I started, to look where I am now gives me hope in where I could be in a couple years. I plan on having my very own spot in the future with the help of God and my family to continue pursuing my dreams. I have always dreamed of being someone big in the Beauty Community, being known for my makeup looks, and I know if i keep doing what i love doing i can reach my goals and tell my parents i made this for them, in return of everything they provided for our family.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend was visiting my area I would definitely take her around all the food places i have near me since i do live near the city. My first stop would be my parents restaurant Angie’s Mexican Restaurant, I mean who doesn’t love some Mexican food? Especially from our restaurant which is delicious. All kinds of different dishes that are made from scratch everyday. I would also love to take them to Downtown Houston, it’s always a vibe there with many things around.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out to all of the different companies for letting me promote their products and letting me be a part of their team. From when i first started to now, I feel like they all deserve credit but the one i would like to mention is Goddessganglashes on Instagram. She is the sweetest most humbling person ever doing her own thing. She gave me the opportunity to be a promoter for her company, her bomb colorful lashes that made me create all these beautiful looks with them and her amazing lipglosses. I love supporting her and I really hope she reaches all her goals in life.
