We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Boyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is actually the slogan for my business. “Bringing the bar home”. It is the motto and backbone of my entire business model. Obviously being 34 I’m not old enough to remember the cocktail parties of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s however this was a wonderful time period when the epicenter of cocktails were enjoyed in the home. That’s what I aim to bring back with “Teach Me How to Cocktail”. Through this class I will teach the average home entertainer to make classic and new classic cocktails better than 90% of the bars in their city using regular, everyday ingredients. I aim to make get-togethers and family gatherings fun again!!!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I see cocktails as an art. Same as chefs do with fine cuisine. Cocktails are all about marrying flavors to present something palatable, balanced, unforgettable and aesthetically pleasing. I’m most proud of my business model as I have found a way to bring the bar to a group of people the same way of personal chef brings quality cuisine to a catered event. Where I differ is I’m bringing the bar, home. Get it?
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being a Houston native and cocktail nerd I’d have to show my friend all the best places to grab an amazing drink. Too many places to name but I’ll try. We have to hit Anvil Bar and Refuge in Montrose as well as Tongue Cut Sparrow which can only be accessed by first enjoying a margarita at The Pastry War. All of which are Bobby Huegal establishments. Food wise I’d recommend some awesome Tex-Mex as well as plenty of seafood options (allergies permitted lol).
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, my most important source of inspiration comes from my son, Brooklyn Beckham Boyd. There is not a day, hour or minute that passes that I don’t thank God for the blessing he has been to my life and hustle. He is THE REASON I work as hard as I do. Moving forward there are a number of people critical to my life that deserve recognition. Tisha Mendez, Brooklyn’s mom, for being a lifelong partner in our parental journey. Tony O’Neal for being the best friend a guy can ask for and the brilliant eye behind some of my camera work. Pamela Poullard AKA @djtechnorella for the LOVE and support. Courtney Jacobs of Baton Rouge, LA also know as The Balloon Swoon. Also let’s not forget Tiana Watson, Owner of Tending2U. Thank you all for the phenomenal role yo all have played in my life.
