We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Hoke and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Once upon a time, the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker… wait, wrong story. Once upon a time, the leader, the teacher and the artist stumbled upon an idea. It was fun, and unique and appealed to kids from 6 to 96 from all backgrounds and interests. It drew in the leader first who dazzled through spreadsheets and numbers and feasibility, and then the artist who envisioned the groups and families and couples who would come enjoy, and finally the teacher who saw the simplicity and beauty in a well directed team. Together, they decided to be the best part of someone’s day (including their own!)

Too ambiguous? My husband Jeff has a career in business and project management. I, Erica, am the artist with a focus on graphic design. My sister in law Jennifer, was a lifelong teacher and theater director. Together, I knew we had an ideal skill set for a successful business and after stumbling onto the idea, the rest was details.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are affordable luxury for everyone. It’s fun, and every time you walk in our door, you can leave with a unique custom product. It’s something for when you need a calm minute alone, or when you’re getting together with friends and family, or a first date, anniversary or birthday. You make something and put love in it!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
