We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Charles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Greedy Girls Guide was inspired by my life long love for food and tasting new things. The term Greedy Girl (or Guy) to me means an explorer of food. A sociable person who has cultivated a refined taste for food and drinks. Since a young girl, I have been exposed to a variety of cuisines and cultures, I carried this love for exploring new foods to Houston. While sharing my findings on my personal social media platform, I always get intriguing questions from my followers. That led me to making a separate page to highlight my food journey around Houston. The name, Greedy Girls Guide, came from eating any and everything in my child hood, plus the purpose of my page, which is to be a guide to all things food, drinks, and fun!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started taking photos of my food in high school when going out with family, after school treats, and little date nights. I never noticed how many pictures I had taken of food until recently. It prepared me for the content creator I am today. I really enjoy going out to get food and drink content! My purpose is to give my audience an experience as if they were at the restaurants eating with me! I am proud of my work and the thought process that goes behind it, I am very peculiar. Eventually my hard work and creative content paid off, following grew and I really could see the potential of Greedy Girls Guide. This all takes time, effort, and most of all patience. It is important to stay authentic and confident in your work, trust me it shows. Ive definitely learned to be kind to myself, don’t compare, and have fun doing what you love. Also, it’s important to remind myself that this is all an opportunity; “I can” not “I have to”. This is literally my favorite thing to do and I’m just glad to be able to share it all with others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my bestie was visiting Houston we definitely have a full weekend itinerary planned! We love eating, drinking, and doing fun stuff! First would be a cute Friday happy hour at Lost & Found or McCormick & Schmicks Uptown (depending on the mood). Then head over to the Galleria for a little shopping trip! That night, we’d get dressed up and head over to Kiss Houston for late night dinner and drinks. Kiss is for the perfect vibe dining experience with your girls or any party. Or Kinn Dee in the heights for a reverse happy hour with a great selection of food and drinks. This itinerary would have to include a visit of Taste Bar & Kitchen for Saturday brunch. Taste Bar is my number one brunch spot! I love their lamb chop, waffles, and lobster mac n cheese. We would then get into something fun like the Color Factory or making our own lipsticks at Myx Blend Bar and explore rice village. Maybe even stop to Sixty Vines for a delicious Frose! That Evening I would bring my bestie for some delicious BBQ at the Pit Room. They have some of the best brisket and BBQ sauce I’ve ever had. Then continue the night bar hopping in Midtown. Or at Kamp Houston on Westhiemer if we’re looking for a real turn up. Ending the night with some random food truck tacos, that always seem to be delicious. One of my fav late night taco trucks is El Gato on Westheimer as well. The next day we would have to brunch again, but this time at Bosscat Kitchen. I love their shrimp & grits and music selection, always a vibe! We would have to visit the Post downtown and show off Houston’s beautiful skyline. Then later on have a nice Sunday dinner at The Original Carrabbas on Kirby. They have some of the best Italian food in town, hands down. You have to get their Frozen Bellini with your meal! And we cant forget a trip to Jeni’s in the heights for some delicious ice cream to end the night!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother has been a MAJOR influence to my passion for food and dining out. She introduced my sister and I to unique cuisines at a young age, which inspired me to become the Greedy Girl I am today. We ate at fancy restaurants, tried new things, and learned restaurant etiquette on a normal basis. For example, Ive been knowing how to use chopsticks since I can remember, now i teach my friends! I appreciate her so much for paving the way for my knowledge for food. And always encouraging me to try new things, at least once. Also, major shoutout to my supportive friends for always letting my phone eat first, pushing me to stay consistent with my platform, and most importantly being Greedy Girls and Guys with me!
