We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Erger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When I started my small business, I had a contract position that had flexible hours and my husband and I had no children yet. Therefore, I had a lot more time to devote to my small business and a pretty easy work/life balance. Now, fast forward 2.5 years later, I have a different job that is 40 hours a week in downtown Houston, a super active 16 month old, and this small business. Therefore, I am constantly getting pulled in different directions. But, I try to prioritize my time and plan ahead so that I can try to make my jewelry in the evenings, once I am home from work and my son is sleeping versus before, when I could make them whenever I wanted to pretty easily. I always make time to play with my son and dogs in the evenings over my small business and if that means staying up later at night to get an order out, I will do it!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I went to law school and received a law degree where I am licensed in Louisiana. But, my husband’s work brought us to Houston, I did some contract work for awhile but then got a job for an Oil & Gas company. I definitely would not have envisioned my career taking shape like it has but I am grateful for the twists and turns I have had to bring me to this point!

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Postino Heights! They have such good drink specials and their bruschetta board is to die for. The best mexican is El Tiempo, I could eat there everyday! Their fajitas and margaritas are the best I have ever had and the atmosphere is so much fun. I would also take my friend to Buffalo Bayou or Memorial Park to walk around, they are both pretty in their own unique way, plus it’s a great time of year (April) to be outside enjoying the weather before this crazy Texas heat! Bars: the secret garden in downtown is so cute, it is like a big green house, definitely a unique little spot to grab a cocktail after work.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband. He is such a big supporter and fan in this venture and when I need to make some jewelry, he is always there to entertain our son and help in whatever way he can.
