We had the good fortune of connecting with Faith Abili and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Faith, what is the most important factor behind your success?
When I launched A-Billi Cosmetics- I did so with the intent to continue the work of diversifying the beauty industry, all while providing non-toxic and cruelty-free products. I can honestly say operating with that mission in mind has helped customers and supporters resonate with our purpose, and the influx of support we have received is nothing short of amazing. I believe the most important aspect of my brand is the authenticity it is powered with. It is so easy in this day to just put a face out there- to just put products out for the sake of quantity or growth. I am proud to say that every ambassador we elect aligns with our brand values and each product put out is nothing less than the best quality. As we are just shy of a year old, we definitely still have a lot of growing to do, but I am so excited to see the growth of the impact we continue to make. As a BIPOC centric company, our success is mainly quantified by our ability to promote visibility and representation for my people in the beauty industry. A-Billi Cosmetics is a brand that was created for every person that may not see themselves in a world that pushes a non-inclusive standard of beauty. With a mission like this- the ability to freely be who we are and sincerely live out this goal has been the best component of success I can ask for at this time

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
A-Billi Cosmetics is a BIPOC centric company that focuses on the promotion of the BIPOC community in the beauty industry. I’ve spoken before about how the lack of accurate representation for our community impacted me to want to create more visibility for us. While that same mission has been a large part of my success, you can say it’s also one of the challenges I face. The problem with beauty industry today is everything must be palatable- real, but not too identifiable, empowering but not too attainable. There’s a gap between the perception of life and what is actually is. When it comes to promoting BIPOC, there’s a preference in the types that get to be the face of what they call “diversity”. Pointing out these problems means calling out colorism, feauturism, texturism, fatphobia and more. It means turning down opportunities that don’t align with your values regardless of reach and sometimes, being turned down because our values aren’t palatable enough. At the same time that’s what makes this brand different, that’s what makes it strong. One thing I have learned during the last ten months is that growth is not quantified by time, followers, or money- it is impact, it is value. Those alone will ensure the longevity and trajectory of your growth- it will secure the success that is already present.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is such wealth of culture- it’s so hard to just narrow down what a day can look like. I’m honestly a day by day kind of person- unless I’m traveling. I think when I first got to Houston the food is what kept me enamored so I would start with a few staple Black-Owned eateries. The Breakfast Klub, Soul Food Vegan, Prey Houston, Lucille’s, obviously Turkey Leg Hut to name a few. The graffiti district is an interesting take on art in Houston- a lot of H-Town heroes can be found on the walls of downtown Houston so that would be another stop. The rest of the time would just be vibes honestly, that’s what Houston is, music, history and vibes.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Aside from my customers, my ambassadors have been the biggest supporters. I would be remiss to not acknowledge them for all the work they have done. The talent these people exhibit shocks me every time I see their work, and I owe them the biggest thank you for taking a chance on this brand. I could not have found a better more solid group of people to promote as the growing faces of A-Billi Cosmetics. I cannot wait for us to continue our growth together so I can show them just how much they mean to me. If you aren’t familiar with this brand, I encourage you to take a look at our profile page so you can see the type of work they put in. I would put the “AC Baddies” against anybody, I have so much love for my Team.
