We had the good fortune of connecting with Genesis Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Genesis, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Hmm this is actually an interesting question because I actually never wanted to start a business. I wanted to work for a salon and build my clientele through them . But life has a weird way of working and now I am running a salon suite .
So “Corazón Sagrado” backwards in English is “Sacred Heart” .
I come from a Hispanic household and when picking out a business I wanted to incorporate that in.
Next I had to pick out the aesthetic I wanted for my salon ,
I am a huge fashion lover and the 70’s era really spoke to me so when you mix 70’s and Spanish roots you get Corazon Sagrado .
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I think what I am most proud of is over coming every challenge/Obstacle that was thrown at me.
Let’s see I started school in 2017 and I got expelled 3 weeks away from graduation. I was in a really dark state of mind to the point where I didn’t want to get up from bed. I didn’t want to get up and go to work and everything stopped motivating me.
I think the turning point was seeing all of my friends graduate and me being left behind I wanted to take control of my life so 9 months later I was able to apply and I enrolled back in 2019. I graduated that same year, schedule my licensing written examination and I failed twice , finally I passed , took my practical and I failed 3 times. But each time I kept going back until I passed . Was it frustrating? Yes it was but I knew I wanted this.
Life will never be easy , it will always be hard . We just got to pick our hard.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Okay okay honestly I am like a Houston conoussier.
So brunch at The Dunlvy, it’s a super cute place with great food + views. – also around the corner there’s bayou park which has amazing views of Houston’s skyline.
Then we would skip over to 19th/20th street and hit up these bungalow bars.
By the time we are done drinking and having a blast We’d get hungry and I’d recommend the underground food Hall just because there’s so many choices to pick from that would fit everyone’s tastes buds !
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think definitely my Family.
Dad , mom , sister & my best friend.
These are the people that have been with me since day one and never stopped believing that I could accomplish my dreams.
