We had the good fortune of connecting with Gregory Joseph and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gregory, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I went to Prairie View A&M University and obtained my degree in Management Information Systems and while I love the technology and everything that’s involved with including updating all my devices any time I get, it not as fulfilling as it is when I am able to come up with a concept, execute that concept and present it for the world to see. Now when you add in being able to get paid to be creative, its almost a no brainer for me why I went for this industry.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I think separates me from others is my willingness to go outside of the box. I am not afraid to make mistakes ( unintentionally of course) and I am always learning. It’s almost as if I am back to my ten year old self who wants to learn more about how things are made. I got to where I am today by just simply trusting in myself and keeping my head down and allowing the work to speak for itself. It was not easy. My biggest challenge was myself. I was dealing with a serious case of imposter syndrome. I doubted myself initially but as the positive reviews started to flow in, I memorized them to remind myself that somewhere someone appreciates my work and that someone is always watching.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite places include, Dots Diner, The Museum of Fine Arts, Contemporary Arts Museum, Breakfast Klub.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I don’t think I can not give the first shoutout to my family who gave me the space I needed to be able to take what I consider to be a risk worth taking. My parents took me in when I got divorced and had no where else to go. My oldest sister gave me space in her consulting firm to turn a passion into a money maker.
