We had the good fortune of connecting with Gucciii and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gucciii, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When I was first approached to learn permanent make-up, I immediately knew that I was in for a hectic schedule. With a full time 9-5 job, family, my partner, and my artistic endeavors, balance was not exactly the easiest thing to find. I often spent 12 hour days working in a local frame shop and in the studio with clients. Even when I wasn’t framing, I had my long weekends doing PMU, all while trying to find time for normal day to day activities. It sucked missing out on outings, events, and simple down time with my loved ones, but I did what I could to insure I still got to enjoy these things from time to time. This all changed once I was able to leave my job and pursue PMU full time though! Now, things don’t seem so crazy and I’ve been able to see my family & friends more, spend more time investing in myself, and to get cozy with my pups to a good horror flick! Point is, finding balance while building up a business isn’t exactly a piece of cake, but the hard work we put in WILL pay off. I swear by it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I work full time as a cosmetic tattoo artist with services ranging from brows to lips to freckles! This is something I didn’t quite imagine myself doing, but it is my stepping stone into the world of artistic tattooing. Unlike most PMU artists, I take all factors of my clients personal style into account when providing them with a service, rather than creating the “cookie cutter” appearance that we see time and time again. I take a lot of pride in every appointment and do my best to create a fun, unforgettable experience, accompanied by the best tunes! The process of getting here wasn’t the easiest though. I spent many days and nights practicing & promoting myself to build the clientele that I have today. I took model after model while only charging enough to cover the cost of supplies. Some days I felt like I would never make it to the next step in my career, but after 20 model appointments, I saw things starting to pick up and my vast improvement! Soon enough, I was learning new services and I’ve blossomed into a new person with this endeavor. I still dedicate so much time to constantly learning new techniques to this day, because as an artist, I feel that there is always room for continuous growth. You can never stop learning about your craft. At the end of the day, the most important thing that I want people to know about myself and my story is that you can literally be whatever the f*** you desire, no matter what the circumstances are. Even when you’re at lowest, you can and WILL bounce back on top. Always have a good heart and put endless love into the universe, it’ll pay you back tenfold.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week long trip in Houston? There’s literally so much to do that I don’t quite think I can fit it all in, haha. First and foremost, we gotta get coffee to start the day! My first stop is ALWAYS Xela Coffee Roasters in Second Ward. The crew at Xela is the sweetest and I can always count on them for a delicious OB Honey Latte… hot, please! For breakfast, you can’t go wrong with Harry’s in Montrose. Afterwards, we’ll enjoy the local thrift/antique shops, and maybe make a quick pit stop at Lola’s for a $1.75 PBR. Hahaha As for the rest of the evening, you can catch me at Satellite Bar watching a local band perform with my closest friends, or if it’s a Thursday, we’ll be at Etro for Bewitched! These places best showcase all of my favorite parts of Houston and will hopefully have any visitor fall in love with this beautiful city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many people that I can thank for the success I’ve achieved and the leaps I’ve made in recent time, but there is one person in particular who I’d like to thank. This person is my partner Cristyan, who is also a full time tattoo artist (IG: @Grahmatter). This man has inspired me like no other to keep pushing even when the world feels like it’s crashing down around me, to always be the best version of myself, and to create something beautiful every single day.
