We had the good fortune of connecting with Hailey Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hailey, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
When I started attending markets as a vendor with my family company, Bees Knees Honey Company, I fell in love with the feeling of community. Now that I own markets, it is my goal to amplify that feeling!
I am here to remind people that there is more to where they live than brick and mortar. It is all about people, family, and your neighbors! The rush of everyday life, fades away when you walk through a Local Market, just like magic! Not to mention that small business pour everything they have into their products. There is nothing like local honey, handcrafted cheese boards, homemade cookies, and food.

Local Street Markets have been around for centuries. They bring people together to enjoy the fruits and labors of what a town can truly offer. While giving us all an opportunity to meet farmers, ranchers, beekeepers and artisans, and support their small business.

What should our readers know about your business?
I took on the job of managing ‘market day’ around two years ago. The experience taught me a lot, and when the opportunity to own markets came to me, I dove in head first. It was not easy, but nothing you want is. You have to put in the work, and it pays off. You become proud of yourself, your creation, and the relationships you build. I learned to persevere even when I struggled most, and to always find the good out of my failures.

What sets my business apart is being a vendor myself. Over the years I have learned everything that I love and dislike
about markets. Now I am in control of those factors, and with that I will always put my vendors first. Vendors are what make markets possible.

I am most excited to see where I can bring these markets, and to watch the community grow with them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have lived here for 22 years, and there are so many things you can do. If I had one week here with my friend(s) my top places would be to climb at Momentum, LaCenterra to shop and hang out, George Bush to walk and bike, and over the weekend to Whiskey River to dance and of course shop Local Markets. We would eat at the many different restaurants Katy has to offer, such as Local Table, Whiskey Cake, and Joy Love Burgers. My friends and I are very outdoorsy, active and laid back, and that’s what you will find in Katy.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success is all do to the support of my family, who have helped me in every step of creating and growing this business. Along with the endless support I have received from my friends. Even my vendors! If there is one thing I have learned from opening my own company, it’s that the people who love you, and surround you, will always be your support, quick to help where you lack, and your number one fans. To everyone of you, I can not thank you enough.
