We had the good fortune of connecting with Hayley Free Bordes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hayley, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Working from home with three kids can be tough at times, so it always important to find a good work-life balance. That being said, I set aside a certain amount of time each day to strictly focus on my projects. Consistency is definitely key. If I were to procrastinate and try to fill a week’s worth of work into one day, there would be a deficiency in my work product.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Prior to being a full-time blogger, I worked in the Oil & Gas Industry for 10 years. I spent my time as and Energy Trading and Risk Management Consultant, I traveled throughout the US, working on various projects for many large corporations. Later I worked in-house for a mid-stream company as a Project Manager. Managing others, as well as projects, gave me the experience I needed to have successful relationships with multiple brands and campaigns as an influencer.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston has so many hot spots so this is a tough one, but since I have kids, I will pick some of my favorite kid-friendly ones.

Food Spots – El Tiempo, Killen’s Steakhouse, The Dessert Gallery (for Desserts)

Drink/Hang Out Spots – The Rustic, Truck Yard, Pinstripes, and St. Arnold Brewery

Places to visit – The Color Factory, The Galleria, The Houston Zoo, Galveston Island, Astros Game

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So when I began blogging six years ago, I had a close friend who gave me some tips on where to begin. Her name is Amanda Miller Pollard of The Miller Affect, so special thanks to her for the initial help. Over the years, my family, especially my parents, Jamye and Troy, and husband, Randy, have been very supportive of me pursuing my passion. From watching the kids for me so I can attend an event, to being the person behind the camera lens, they have each played an important part. Without their love and encouragement, I would have never been able to achieve my goals, so I am very appreciative of them.
