We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
My willingness to never give up. I’ve always been a self-motivated individual so no matter how tough things may have gotten I’ve always stayed strong and grounded and kept on pushing to reach my goals.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My company name is DesignHer brows by Jay,
I am a semi-permanent makeup artist specializing in microshading of the eyebrows. Micro shading last between 1-3yrs, it’s a great option for women who aren’t as Savvy In doing their own makeup
On a daily basis or even for those who’d like to cut down their time on doing their makeup and not having to rush before work or an event as drawing on your eyebrows can be very time consuming for a lot of individual’s. I call this my On~the~Geaux Lewk! 😏

I struggled for quite some time trying to learn how to draw on my brows and I absolutely hated it when I would have to wipe them off after a great beat from my best friend I would literally keep them on until the next day lol (don’t try this at home) so then on day scrolling Instagram I came across a lady that was offering a class on microshading and I was immediately interested, did as much research as I possibly could and jumped right into it! So from there I attended the class and I now have my own eyebrows micro-shaded as well which gives my clients an idea of how they’d like their brows to look and I give honest feedback on the entire process from start to finish from my very own experience.

This has been a great experience but hasn’t always been easy as just with The pandemic Alone all most made me give it up! The world had shut down just two months after my first initial training class and that put me in a very tight spot! But I kept on practicing on faux skins and finally as the country slowly started to re-open my clients were rolling in slowly but surely I even took refresher courses to enhance my skills as this isn’t something you pick up one day and keep going practicing is extremely important!

I’d also like to mention my lemonade business that I run along with my children calmed Fairy Sweet lemonade
(@fairy_sweet_lemonade) we have been in business for a little over two years now thanks to my 9yrold daughter Jaida who gave me the idea to begin with! Her and I both have always loved lemonade and she wanted to have her own lemonade stand but at the time I was pregnant and that alone says enough lol…but then one day I lost my job and she came to me and said that we should sell lemonade so I can make some money! To take her to Disney world of course lol but hey nonetheless still to make money right lol 😂 so once we got that up and running it’s been nothing less than amazing! We offer 9 different lemonade flavors in many different sizes. We offer local delivery, a few free pick up locations and shipping. We also sell koolaid pickles 😁
This business is my first baby and how I became “the lemonade ladie” we have the best lemonade in the city and as our motto goes “the proof is in the juice!” 😇

As a single mother and entrepreneur
I want people to know that entrepreneurship is an amazing thing! It won’t always be peaches and cream but if you put your mind to it you can do it!! Stay strong no matter what and keep your faith!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my children Jamarion (my son) and my two daughters Jaida and Aaniyah they are my daily motivation in everything I do especially within my two businesses. Also I’d like to shoutout my long-time friend and mentor Eric Neal (Ruebx_Qube) he has always supported me and helped guide me through the in’s and out’s of business. And my best friend Ashton Allen the owner of @dramaattiicc_Mua she supports me so much that even as a makeup artist she was my very first brow client and allowed me to microshaded her eyebrows as my class model.
