Meet Heather Howard | Interior Decorator: Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Howard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was at a turning point in my life. My third daughter had just been born! I had given up my job at a fabulous furniture retailer, I was too needed at home. My other girls were growing up, & my husband was off shore (he works on shifts, one month on, one month off). I didnt want to walk away from doing what I loved, so I thought, “if not now, when?”, and my husband pushed me to get things in order to start my own company. We did the steps and it all started flowing into place.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always been enthralled with fashion and home making. That being said, interior design just makes me giddy. I love seeing how other designer’s minds work and create. My own personal taste tends to be more traditional, but I emphasize putting an eclectic and youthful spin on that aesthetic. I love timeless pieces, and appreciate quality in antiques, and vintage furniture.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would for sure be focusing in on finding an outdoor flea market or some seasonal festival, BUT FIRST, brunch, and leisurely getting ourselves ready for a day of galivanting! Nothing beats down time with people who just get you, and are on the same page. This question makes me think of the girls’ trips that I get to enjoy here and there, when the stars align just right with our crazy schedules. From Galveston Island to Round Top TX, there are so many great areas to explore. I love old downtowns that have that historic charm. Add in some pool/beach/or boat time, & that’s pretty much as good as it gets!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The person behind the scenes is my number one supporter, my husband. Right alongside are my kids for understanding the flexibility I need. They do their best to help me balance home responsibilities and my work. I should add that we bought a 5 acre homestead one year after starting my business. We took on more responsibilities including a dozen chickens and a garden to tend! It was all welcomed additions to our already busy life.
