We had the good fortune of connecting with Heavenly Waters and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heavenly, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
My end goal is to create music that will feel freeing when others hear it. My goal is to be able to get paid to cater to my passion for singing and making music. I love everything about the music writing/ recording process. Doing so is like therapy for me. Although I also want to be in the medical field, I believe that with good time management, I will be able to do both. By the end of my career, I want to be performing at various venues, releasing songs consistently, all the while managing my practice as a nurse.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a singer/songwriter. I create music for those who experience hardship, heartbreak, love, and those who need encouragement. I am different from other artists because I don’t make music for one set audience. Anyone going through the human experience can listen to my music and not only enjoy it but relate to it as well. I am excited to create my next project. I want to take my time creating it along with visuals to go with each song. I’ve gotten to where I am today by allowing myself to embrace who I am. If I hadn’t embraced who I am, I would’ve found myself in situations that I was never meant to be in. I am enjoying my journey as an up-and-coming artist because I know that one day it will pay off. So far throughout my journey, I’ve learned to be patient. “Patience is key” is such a cliché statement, but it is so true. I had to learn that there is no reason for me to be in a rush because what is meant to happen in my life will happen all at the right time. I love the journey that I’m on. I love that I continue to learn new things about myself as I continue to grow. With that being said, I’ve also learned to take one step at a time. Sometimes when we have such a big vision for ourselves, we think that we have to do everything at once. Allow yourself to plant a seed, water it, and watch it grow because nothing worth it will come easy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend visited, I would first take her to Clé for brunch and mimosas. We would eat at Lotus and/or Crafty Crab. We would go bar hopping for drinks in Midtown Houston. Me and my friends are mostly homebodies so we would more than likely hangout at home and watch movies. If we wanted to leave the house to hang out, we’d probably go sit by a pool and have some drinks. The most interesting places to check out would be interactive museums such as Seismique and The Color Factory.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Right out of high school, I attended THE Prairie View A&M University. The first organization I joined was Triple P. Triple P is an organization that is known for its open mic nights where poets, singers, rappers, etc… get to express themselves. The first few times that I attended their open mic nights, I was beyond nervous to perform. Watching how supportive, encouraging, and overall compassionate everyone was helped me to eventually gain the courage. I’ve always had stage fright but Triple P helped me to manage it. I enjoyed being surrounded by such creative minds who inspired me. Being in a space where I knew that I wasn’t the only shy one made me feel like I wasn’t alone. Triple P helped shape me into the artist that I am today and continues to be a safe space for creatives. Being a part of this organization, I’ve met some amazing people and made great friends. I no longer attend PVAMU, but I can honestly say that some of my favorite memories there come from Triple P.
