We had the good fortune of connecting with Heidi Hansen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heidi, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work life balance is always a bit of a struggle as I know it is for most of us. Over the years I have learned that I don’t need to do All The Things. I am doing my best to focus on what works best and avoid the distractions. There is too much info out there, too many time wasters, and too many social apps that I don’t even try to keep up with it. With that said, I try to spend my daytime hours doing what has to get done so I don’t feel guilty when it’s family time. My husband is a business owner too. Through the years we have learned a good balance and one of us is always available for the kids.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I feel like my creative juices didn’t really start flowing until I was in my mid 30’s. I slowly started designing clothes, making patterns, finding tailors, and then I just jumped. I did not think about what I didn’t yet know, I just kind of went for it. So… there has been a ton to learn!! And that comes with it’s challenges and it’s rewards. I definitely would not say it’s been easy. There have been tears, days I want to quit, and thinking “What the hell am I doing?!” But at the end of most days, I’m happy to be doing what I do 😉 I am having a lot of fun designing clothes and even more fun finding accessories to add to HEIDI HOUSTON. I now have beautiful hats and jewelry that I think really compliment the collection. I love to keep the clothes clean and classic and then add in the fun bold accessories to really kick up the style.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My entire family has been super supportive. They keep me going at those times when I can’t seem to find my motivation. Also, I am part of The Hive Pop Up Collective which has just been so fun! I started this business on my own without any friends or connections in this field. So, being a part of a Collective with many business owners is not only encouraging it’s fun!
