We had the good fortune of connecting with Helen Kwok and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Helen, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I encourage my girl to express herself artistically in everything she does, whether it’s for her love of drawing, decorating her room or even packing a suitcase. The fact is that creative people think differently when faced with challenges and often can find solutions outside the box even in the most conventional setting.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Hi, I’m Helen from Moonlit Soapworks, a Texas-based artisan soap maker . Moonlit Soapworks was born out of one woman’s obsession with the art of soapmaking. Upon discovering the fascinating process of turning oil and lye into artisan soap, as well as the endless possibility of using one block of soap for my creative expression, I was hooked. With a couple of years of testing and refining my craft, I found myself surrounded by hundreds of bars of pretty soaps and an ever growing demand from my customer base. Wth 20+ years of design background, building a brand that would match my artisan creations became a logical next step.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston, TX is a prefect place for foodies. I will start off at a Texas BBQ place like Rudy’s for some moist brisket and cream corn, then off to Chinatown to get some boba milk tea and bubble egg, also stop by King’s Bakery for some Hong Kong style freshly baked bread and egg tarts. After some sightseeing at the museum district, maybe visit a taco truck for some mid-day snack, then do some shopping by the mid-town area. For dinner, opt for a nice Korean BBQ place in Spring Branch and finish off the day at Katy Asian Town with some Eight Turn Crepe.
From traditional Texas BBQ to Tex-Mex to Korean BBQ, Houston got it all here.
So come hungry and enjoy.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Big shout out to my loyal customer base and youtube channel followers. They are the reason I push forward and produce better products every day. Also big thanks to all the wonderful people I’ve met within the soapmaking community who encouraged me and shared their creative process with me.
