We had the good fortune of connecting with Hollie Berry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hollie, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Owning two businesses now has made the work/life balance even more apparent and important. By knowing myself and knowing when I’m wearing myself thin I will schedule to have more life balance because both are equally important and can not function without the other.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Currently I have two businesses – Hollie Berry Beauty helps people feel and look their best. My personal brand is a reflection of me, and its success is dependent upon every project and interaction I have. I give my heart and soul to each project that comes my way, and people notice that. Alchemy Beauty Academy helps the next generation of artists start their hair and makeup careers successfully and connects them with others in the beauty community. Alchemy is especially unique as it creates a holistic approach to business and interacting with other people. The journey hasn’t always been an easy one nor a straight forward one. I tried the 9-5 thing, I tried several different careers, and realized owning my own business aligned with me perfectly. When you make the shift to being a full time entrepreneur there is no other option except to push forward. You think differently and know there are many different ways to pivot but still get to the outcome you want. My mission is to paint the world beautiful, knowing I did something to create a positive impact on others and the community. I will continue to pursue that mission despite what obstacles may come. When your “why” is bigger than yourself, the drive and desire to overcome will outweigh the obstacles.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Depending on the friend visiting I would cater to their vibe. For those seeking sun and a soak in the ocean I love Windansea Beach not only because it is beautiful but within walking distance. If they had pups I’d take them to Coronado as they have an off-leash dog beach. For those seeking a desert oasis I may take them to Joshua Tree or for more of a woodsy vibe – Julian where we can get homemade apple pie. In San Diego you can’t go wrong with ANY of the Taco Shops and the hole in the wall places are even better. Depending on your budget I would suggest dining at Puesto, the Taco Stand or Don Carlos.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to Kahila Hedayatzadeh who I’ve known for several years as both a coach and friend. Her guidance and support helped push me to become the woman and business owner I am today.
