Meet Huy Nguyen: HVAC Contractor & American Businessman

We had the good fortune of connecting with Huy Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Huy, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
The best habit you can have is to never forget about day 1 when you started. Treat every day, week, month, year as it was your first day. Never lose that drive and consistency. Never get too comfortable and always remember where you came from.

What advice would you give to a new business owner or someone that is interested in starting a business?
Before business can work, you must first be well in your own life. Your mindset must be in the right place and you must have a plan and the ability to run a legitimate business. A business requires so many aspects of every day life. Customer service, knowing how to speak, knowing how to write, knowing how to read a book… knowing how to deal with problems n finding solutions to correct them. You realize all the old jobs you used to have, lessons your parents tried to teach you when you were young, or the classes you took in school all play a role on how your mind thinks and finds solutions to problems in everyday life and business. One of the things that helped me most in life was failing. I failed so much growing up, it taught me to not take failure as a permanent outcome. When you overcome failure, it teaches you that failure is actually a stepping stone to achieve success. It teaches you to never give up.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite thing to do in Houston is to eat. When friends come visit, I can guarantee we’re at a restaurant. It doesn’t matter what kind neither. Mom n pop, viet town, chinatown, downtown, midtown, indian, korean, mexican, sushi… we love it all. May catch us having a follow up drink or dessert at a bar or boba tea shop. I’m older now with a family and I’m more focused on business so I don’t have much of a night life anymore. I like to stay home most of the time and relaxing when I have the chance to do so. A perfect day for me is a good meal with friends and family and relaxing at home with friends by the pool with drinks and fun games.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s just too many people to thank. In life, I believe in order to succeed you have to surround yourself with people that love and support you. It’s very important to have support. Support from your family, your spouse, your friends, your clients, and the colleagues of your industry that helped you and taught you things about your craft. You learn in life that everybody, good or bad, will play a role in your life. You must learn from the bad, and cherish n build with the good. Nothing would be possible without all the people in your life.
