We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaela Vangilder and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaela, what do you want people to remember about you?
My legacy would be to see a new future of woman loving themselves. What I want, and what I hope people remember about me was I kind, caring, loving, supportive, enlivening and empowering? I certainly hope so, because these are traits I highly value in others, and truly wish to emulate.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started off as a girl who had to overcome trials in my childhood, trials that left me self conscious in myself, and my body. I want to be able to show woman that they can love themselves and own their sexuality and love their bodies! I want to show woman “me too” I was a victim of sexual assault and I’m owning my body and loving it and creating beautiful art, and no matter what I wear or don’t I’m empowering other woman to self-love. The road to self love is never an easy road and their will be others that try and knock you down on your journey the main one being yourself. You have to push through.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My most favorite little spot in Houston Texas, is The Hobbit Cafe! It’s the cutest little spot with such good food! Other than that my most favorite thing to do is thrifting. And finding fun locations to do photoshoots!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest shout-out is to my friends and family, with their support and encouragement I have been able to pursue my goals and push myself to continue to create beautiful art, and build new friendships with other amazing creatives.
