Meet ImposterBoys: Houston Band

We had the good fortune of connecting with ImposterBoys and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ImposterBoys, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Jazz – Born and raised in HTX, submerged in music since I was a kid has made me think and hold music firstly in most of my decisions in life. I believe life can be quick so you should do what you want while you can. Made a lot of stories with this value.

Rox – I was born in HTX. There’s no one musical in my family except for a couple of cousins, but my family always loved music. That was an easy segue into getting more into music, creating it, and seeking it out in town./// I believe in being as honest as you can w/ the art you create. Even if it’s super cryptic, being honest in that sense is important.

Hey – I was born and raised in Silver Spring, Maryland. I moved to Houston, Texas when I was 15 years old. Growing up, I was always surrounded by music. Whether it was what my parents were listening to or what my older cousin would listen to – music has always had a big impact on my life. There was always a song that could describe how I was feeling even when I couldn’t.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

J – Excited to always create something from nothing is the big chase for me. I’ve learned to strip it down and practice authentic to myself. Slow or low keep doing what you do.

R – We’re hoping to put out new music soon, that’s something we’re looking forward to. Maybe we got to where we are by taking chances on things-we got to play w/ Screaming Females because Heylen asked them! They liked our music and got us on the bill. It didn’t seem very hard to get to where we are, we didn’t feel pressured into doing things. Our biggest thing is to just have fun.

H – I think the most important thing about us as a band is that we create music to have fun. I think that it shows in our music and whenever we perform. We’ve been a band for about 3 years and we’ve grown so much since then. With playing many shows during these last 3 years and discovering our sound, we are very excited to showcase some new tunes we’ve been working on soon!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

J – for me, the group I’m in with H and R. They are so busy with their lives and goals and still make time to create music together. They both help me personally and I am grateful for them.

R – I also feel it’s the people in my group. Everyone is so impartial and encouraging of the whole song writing process, and differing ideas always come into consideration. This kind of dynamic had always been so fun and engaging.

H – J + R have always been encouraging and supportive throughout our journey as a band. All the bands we’ve played with, venues we’ve played at, and all of our friends who have come out to our shows deserve a shoutout as well!
