We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaac Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Isaac, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
During the pandemic, I started doing research on the top businesses that are recession proof and the food industry caught my attention. After I started looking more into it, I discovered that food trucks are very popular and profitable in the Houston, TX area. I decided to open up a seafood food truck in honor of my mother because seafood was her favorite food. My mother, Mary, passed away last year from cancer so it was a fire that was lit in me to make sure that I started a business honoring her presence and named the truck, Mary Ellen’s Kitchen.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started my entrepreneurship journey in 2015 with Mitchell ManageIt (MMIT), which is a management company that specializes in artist and creative management and investments. As a growing company, our work is based on direct relationships we have with our partners as we push the barriers to create different ways to grow their brand. MMIT is the home for all creatives that need a voice or platform to show off their unique and individual skill sets on their journey to success.

What sets me apart from others is my fearlessness to make mistakes and my creative thought process. I got to where I am today because of the many people who believe in me and my determination to never give up. No it wasn’t easy because of the pain of losing my mother but keeping God first has truly led the way and guided my path.

I have learned throughout this journey that no matter the ups and down you must stay dedicated to the tasks at hand. I believe that everything happens for a reason so that always keeps me motivated to stay the course..

I want the world to know how important teamwork and the value of relationships are to me. I am not only going through this journey for myself but to also bring up others around me

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first thing we would do is go out to the Houston Grub Park to experience the many different food vendors including my food truck, Mary Ellen ‘s Kitchen to try a shrimp and crab plate with our famous TreWay sauce, which is all three of our sauces combined.

Other places I would recommend to eat and catch a vibe are: Taste Bar, Prospect Park, Bisou and Kamp Houston.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Throughout my life, there have been many people who have made an impact. Starting with the man who has created and molded me into the man I am today, my father. He has taught me many valuable life lessons that I hold near and dear to my heart. If it wasn’t for my father, a lot of accomplishments in my life wouldn’t have come into fruition.
