We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaiah Hayes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Isaiah, what do you want your legacy to be?
I would like to leave a legacy behind highlighting individuality. That it’s okay to set yourself apart from the crowd and be different because that’s what makes each of us unique, what makes us human.

What should our readers know about your business?
ISO is an acronym for “I Stand Out,” which I initially came up with back in high school. I wanted a catchy name that would stick but had meaning. I used the wordplay on my passion of basketball and came up with ISO, based on the basketball term isolation nicknamed “iso.” Since my idea and the basketball term went hand and hand of the message I was trying to convey, I felt it was a perfect fit. Initially, I started out customizing and selling shoes all through high school. Once I got to college, I learned very quickly being a full-time student-athlete while working a part-time job, I didn’t have enough free time. And with the tanking of the sneaker market around 2016, I decided to invest into something that would consume less time and capital. People always asked where I got my shirts and a lot of times I was reluctant to say the thrift store in my younger years because it was “uncool.” But once I got to college, I no longer cared of the “thrift” image because I was getting compliments and even selling some of my old personal shirts for far more than I purchased at the “uncool” thrift” stores. Fast forward to 2019, my college advisor, Shelia Howard, kept nagging me to apply for this entrepreneurial scholarship, which I didn’t even consider myself an entrepreneur at the time. She had known of my financial struggles and knew how I had started a little side business of selling clothes and sneakers to try to accommodate and recommended me applying for the scholarship. I didn’t take it very seriously as I didn’t even really know what an entrepreneur was, when all along I had been displaying the traits. And by God’s grace I was awarded a scholarship and was inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame (TBHF). I would be inducted into the same committee as famous entrepreneurs such as Mark Cuban, John Paul Dejoria, Gerald Smith, and many others. That’s when I realized, I can actually run a business and that’s when I decided to take it much more serious.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a bit of a homebody and don’t get out quite much. All my friends know this and for the most part I spend most of my money reinvesting in myself and my brand. But if I had to choose I’d probably say the Six Flags or Hurricane Harbor (Arlington) would be the move. Maybe grab some tacos from the famous Fuel City (Dallas) or visit the famous Rudy’s Chicken (Dallas). The Dallas Aquarium would also be a spot I would show them as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course I would have to shout out the man above because without him none of this would be possible (Luke 1:37). My family, friends and everyone who has supported me along the way, whether they liked a picture, shared a post, purchased a piece or just took the time out to look. A lot of people forget that time is your most valuable asset and I’m very appreciative that people choose to spend some of their time with me. But the person I would like to give the most credit to is no longer here in physical body, but I take her everywhere I go in spirit, mind and body (because I have many tattoos in remembrance of her), my Memaw. Without her supporting me from the jump, to her being my motivation to continue to push through and grind in her memory. None of this would be or could be possible.
