We had the good fortune of connecting with Iyabo Fagbemi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Iyabo, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Eyabo’s Boutique because every time I would go out dressed up and unique people would always ask and inquire about pieces I have on. They would inquire about my purse, shoes , jewelry or even attire! So I decided to open a boutique with pieces I would wear.
What should our readers know about your business?
I started my business alone, no loans, no grants nothing! I had been wanting to open a boutique for years and one day I stepped out on faith and started small, I ordered a few products from my vendor and gave it a try. My first platform was Facebook, Instagram and then I paid for a website. As I gained more followers, supporters and clients I gained more drive to keep going and added more pieces. Everyday wasn’t a good day, several days I’d go without a sale or even a look, which made things more difficult. Even today I’m still growing and have good days and bad days with sales but the most important thing is I keep going! It definitely wasn’t easy and most things wroth having aren’t! I have a few successful business friends who keep me motivated and keep me going hard for what I love. I want the world to know no matter how many sales, looks, likes and or support you have in your brand keep going hard for it till those same people cheer you on and patronize you and your brand and if they never do, just focus on who all does!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Places I like to go in Houston for
club category- o2 lounge, prospect park, cloud 9, and azura!
Food category- steak48, grand lux, kiss, turkey leg hut!
Fun- memorial city mall, galleria, zoo, top golf, main event
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank all my supporters and clients and of course friends and family! But the people who stood by me from beginning till now is Charlene Lawal- @allure.glamm Larry Robinson- @weaveslayer
Latoya Johnson – @sunshinesweetssnow
Like I’ve mentioned it’s so many people to recognize and thank, but those three people have lent me money, prayed with me, motivated me, patronized me, sent people to shop with me, modeled my products, and even allowed my products in their business suites to sale!
I thank you all and love you all dearly ♥️
