We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacqueline Galarza and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacqueline, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I began my journey in cake-making at the age of 16-17, crafting delightful creations such as ‘Charlotas,’ adorned with ladyfingers and fresh fruits, not only pleasing to the eye but also incrediblydelicious. Encouraged by my supportive parents, I embarked on this sweet venture. My first major project was crafting a cake for my sister’s Sweet Sixteen. I must admit, I was quite nervous! However, despite my limited skills at the time, the cake turned out wonderfully, boosting my confidence and setting me on the path to where I am today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
After relocating to San Antonio in 2011, my cake business experienced a significant surge. Despite still pursuing my BA, I found myself inundated with orders every weekend. The highlight was undoubtedly being invited to serve as a judge for Miss San Antonio—an unforgettable experience. Additionally, I spent a few years as a Wilton Cake Instructor.

Following my graduation from UTSA, I decided to take a more relaxed approach. While I continued to bake cakes for friends and family, I scaled back on advertising. However, in 2019, after welcoming my second child, I decided to explore the vendor scene. My inaugural event was the Burton Ball at the Rock Box in San Antonio—a truly exhilarating experience that reignited my passion for baking. Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19 shortly thereafter, I persevered, participating in various events and pop-up markets, gradually expanding into other crafts. I’ve dabbled in creating epoxy and sublimation tumblers, resin keychains, sublimation coffee mugs, and most recently, I’ve ventured into producing my own art and selling stickers.

To this day, I’ve been honored to participate in cons, events, and shows not only in San Antonio but also in Austin, Houston, and even Orlando, FL!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m all about enjoying good food and having a blast! There’s some great food trucks in San Antonio, especially those serving amazing Puerto Rican food. Then, we’ll head over to Sea World or Six Flags, riding every ride we can handle! Of course, no trip would be complete without a pit stop at Buc-ee’s for some must-have snacks and souvenirs. And in Katy, we’ll make sure to visit this little restaurant, blending Chinese and Puerto Rican flavors, a spot I always make sure to hit whenever I’m in Houston for an event!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friends and amazing artists, Azael Gonzalez (AzaGonzalezArt) and Kristina Cantu (Art by Kristina), who have been by my side these past few years while vending at different events, shows, cons, and markets.
