We had the good fortune of connecting with Jada & Zuleyka and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jada & Zuleyka, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The Red Room came about after realizing that sexuality has really become an open discussion overtime. People are less afraid to explore outside of what society normalized to be sexually pleasing to people. The adult novelty industry has grown tremendously however, there aren’t many minorities within the industry. We wanted to educate people, specifically people of color, about the exploration of what they want/need in the bedroom. Furthermore, we wanted to build our brand outside of the typical clothing boutique.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The main goal for our brand is providing consumers with the educational side of exploring their body/partner in a comfortable, yet, fun way. We always want the consumer to feel at ease when inquiring about their romance life and and sexual needs.
We are most excited about doing this interview. We continued to stay consistent in promoting our brand. So being considered to do The Shoutout interview lets us know that we are getting our name out there.
We created The Red Room Boutique by stepping out on faith to further our brand. There are so many risk when it comes to starting/investing in a business. When making the decision to start the business we realized the bigger picture was taking the first step to generational wealth as well as creating opportunity for those who may cross our path.
Starting our business definitely had its challenges but we overcame these challenges by staying consistent and continuing to push ourselves to accomplish goals they we set.
The biggest lesson that we’ve learned is that anything worthwhile won’t be easy. When building a brand you must stay consistent and keep patience throughout the entire journey. Consistency is key to success.
We want the world to know that The Red Room is much more then sex toys. The Red Room is about knowing who you are inside and out and being comfortable with expressing these things. We pride ourselves on giving consumers the knowledge behind the body and the products.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If we were to take our friends out in the city we would definitely have to take them to Breakfast Club for brunch. Herman Park for some outdoor relaxation. We would have dinner at the Turkey Leg Hut, after we go shopping at the Galleria Mall . We would also go to EveryBellies for a nice loaded bake potato some time during the duration of their stay. We would go have a mini photoshoot by the graffiti wall and the huge Waterfall near the Galleria. Houston is full of life, there are so many things to do.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When we started we were strictly dedicated to doing online orders, which takes time to get traffic. Once the pandemic came we were at a standstill. We then met Markeisha Davis with Chapter38 Wine and she was really welcoming to setting us up with pop up shops and showing us the support we needed to get our name out there.
