We had the good fortune of connecting with Jade Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jade, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking is a dangerous game, an extreme sport honestly. It’s also a rush, and at most times it can bring out the best in you. Risk taking has gotten me some of my biggest gigs thus far. When the timing is right and everything is perfect and you’re presented the opportunity sometimes we second guess ourselves. We shouldn’t though, take that risk because 9/10 you’re going to come out winning.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m creative in all aspects, I never put a box around my creativity. Right now I’m focused on modeling and pushing myself as a recording artist. When I set my mind on a goal I do my best to execute the idea. I start off with these big crazy ideas then I simmer them down to what I know I can actually accomplish. I keep it real with myself when it comes to creating, doing what I can and not stretching myself thin. I am most proud of my consistency, as many times as I’ve thought about quitting I never quit. Now, I’m beginning to see the fruits of my labor. Pursuing your dreams as a creative is not an easy role at all, it comes with its many challenges but we need to teach us so we are aware and don’t make the same mistake twice. I’ve learned to listen to my heart more and make space for the life I want to live. I’ve learned to believe in myself and celebrate my wins. Bad Girl Cartel was created for women who are liberated in every aspect of themselves. For the women who are outside of that construct.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Baton Rouge has so many great spots. Food wise, if you’re looking for some great fried chicken it’s only right I would have to go to the Blue Store located in Scotlandville near Southern University. When I’m craving a big juicy burger I head straight to Dixie Maid Drive In. A great wing spot I’d say would be Empire wings. Of course when in Louisiana you have to try the seafood! There’s Tony’s Seafood, Southern Boilers, Danny’s, the list goes on. Next I’d have to show them a great time, the best time to come to Louisiana is during homecoming. First on my list would be hands down Southern University, from the game and tailgating to the SU marching band, the food, the people, and the culture. It’s like no other, the city is so alive. Then theres LSU homecoming which is also a great experience. Louisiana is known for partying and alcohol so it’s only right we go to a daiquiri spot and also a good cook out. Other great places to go which is one of my favorite spots to just chill and be free is Blackwater Conservation Area, it’s an amazing trail with great fishing spots with a little beach to add a little razzle dazzle. Downtown is beautiful also you can walk the levee and go to the casino, multiple food spots also. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give recognition to my older brother and sister. They are the reason for me being a creative. They’ve always supported me no matter what I was interested in. Understood me like no other and I thank them for that.
