We had the good fortune of connecting with Jadefly Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jadefly, what are you inspired by?
Inspiration shows up in many forms. Mostly I am inspired by what happens in a day, whether it be the mood, the happy moments shared and even the adversity that is faced head on.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets us apart is that we show up authentically playing the music that inspires us. There is really no genre that we conform to, we just like to have fun and perform what wee come up with together as friends and musicians. A lot comes out of our rehearsals when we are free styling and warming up to play through our set. It’s our opportunity for us to catchup with each other and have a conversation through music.

We continue to show up, wherever we go we like for the vibe to align with who we are and what we have to offer. Our music is not conventional from the lyrics to the sound, both are about everyday people and the things that are not necessarily talked about in mainstream radio programming.

I’m not sure if easy is what we are going for, it’s not so much about it being a challenge as much as it is about having a good time and connecting with our fans through music.

The relationships we have built and maintained are just as important as the art we create.

We would like for people to know that no matter what is happening in the world if you come to our shows you have an opportunity to leave it behind for awhile and have a good time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well….I am vegan and the only vegan in the group. To have a friend come into town I would take them to all of the vegan hot spots. First stop would probably be Sunshine’s Vegetarian Deli, not just for the food but to meet Sunshine himself he is a major Holistic icon in the Houston Community that has been promoting health and wellness for many decades. Next stop would more than likely be Houston Sauce Pit, it is hard to believe that there is an entire smoke pit that is meatless and taste as good as it does. We would definitely have to pop into Crumbville, Ella Russell makes some of the best sweet treats and has a plethora of vegan options, plus she gives out hugs! I love museums currently the Contemporary Arts Museum has an exhibition of DJ Screw called Slowed and Throwed that is a must see to really be captivated by Houston Art Culture. Record shopping at Sig’s Lagoon or Vinyl Edge and of course as many book stores as possible. Tea, good times with friends and lots of patio love.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that I am grateful for. Every person that contributed to the last project definitely deserves a shoutout. Edwin, Khanhly, Kosmos, for creating the space to record and rehearse. Kmonte Allen, Corey Stoot, Jeremy Nuncio, Robert Smalls, Andre James for contributing as musicians and vocalist. My son and daughter Trey and Shae Jackson for keeping me current and on schedule. Chris Joseph our resident photographer for capturing all of the things we don’t get to see, DJ keva for always setting the tone whenever we are together and of course all of our amazing fans who support us relentlessly.
