We had the good fortune of connecting with Pamela & Tiffany Delgado and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pamela & Tiffany, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought of opening up our own business was something that we wanted to do because we always had a passion for swimwear from a very young age. We knew what we looked for in a swimsuit but unless they were over $200, it didn’t have the right adjustments or straps that were flattering for our bodies. That’s when we decided to create our own line and include all of the materials we felt were missing in the market, all while being affordable to the consumers.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Méla Swim is unique to us because it gives you the sense of a luxe swimwear line while being affordable. Our main goal was to give consumers the ability to adjust their swimwear to fit their body needs. Whether that is including removable padding, adjustable straps, or clasps to adjust the width of the swimsuit. We wanted to be sure that anyone is able to feel confident in our swimwear and have the power to have control over how it fit.

There are many exciting projects we have in store for Méla, we eventually want to expand our brand to be a one stop shop for all of your beach/pool needs. That can includes accessories and cover-ups, we want you to vision your full look with Méla.

Nothing good comes without its challenges, our road to launching wasn’t a smooth one at first. There were lots of trial and error and more importantly set backs with finalizing the right material and fabric we wanted to use. There were times where we wanted to throw in the towel because no one seemed to grasp our vision we wanted. Then we finally got people that understood and helped overcome many of those challenges. One of the lessons we learned along the way was to never sacrifice quality for quantity. We take pride that whatever we decide to put our name on will be up to our standards, never settling for less.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston has such great spots to check out and things to do. Some of our favorite food spots in the city that anyone visiting must try are : Handies Douzo, Rosie Cannonball, Eunice, Steak 48, El Tiempo,The Breakfast Klub, and Turkey Leg Hut.

When it comes to going out and having a drink, these are our go-to : Bisou, SugarRoom, Permission Whiskey, Secret Garden, Cuchara, and Sporting Club.

If it’s a beautiful day out we love to hangout by Buffalo Bayou Park and picnic there, hangout at any of the patios in the Heights (Wicklow Heights) is a fav, Axel Rad is awesome because it has hammocks and outdoor games to play.

I definitely would say that Houston is a big food spot, and they have great shopping too. River Oaks district is a fun area to walk around and shop while stopping by restaurants to grab a bite.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There isn’t no one in particular, just mainly our family and friends that have been so supportive during the whole process that push us to be better everyday. Not to mention many of the successful women in business that motivated us to continue with our journey.
