Meet Jailah Heard | Fashion Designer & Owner “That Gworl” Empire

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jailah Heard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jailah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business was to focus on young women like me who want to start their own business or do something that they truly love. “That Gworl” is a girl who loves herself and focused on her dreams, she works hard for everything she wants and is her own boss. I was inspired by my favorite Youtuber “Kirah Ominique” who uses this term alot. She has inspired me in so many ways and is also one of the reasons I started my business because I’ve watched her grow from when she first started her journey until now and she has came a long. Before I started my business, I was going through a really hard time in my life which also motivated me to start this business for girls like me. “That Gworl The Brand” is more than just a business, it’s a movement for young beautiful women to always stay true to who they are and love themselves always.

What should our readers know about your business?
When the pandemic started, it honestly changed my life. I was a junior in highschool and was still trying to figure out what I wanted to do after I graduated. Since everything was mostly shut down, it wasn’t much for me to do other than go to work and sit in the house all day. For a while, I had always thought about sewing but I never thought I’d go far with it. In Christmas 2019, my mom had bought me a sewing machine and I was so excited to use it, so a couple of months later, I started my sewing journey. I would post pictures of my work on social media and everyone loved it. I was so happy that I had finally found something that I loved. After finding one of my hidden talents, I thought about starting my own clothing line as well, which I started a month after I graduated from highschool. Now, I’m in college attending Prairie View A&M University, majoring in Business Marketing and my clothing brand has been doing so well. What sets me apart from others is my dedication and drive. I would not have imagined my life to be like this at only 18. Once I started my business and started my sewing journey, I knew I wanted to keep going and that this would be something that would take me far.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my bestfriend came to visit, I would take her to get brunch at Breakfast Klub, then afterwards go to the Galleria mall and go shopping. I would also take her downtown to go sight seeing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to my family and friends. They are my biggest support system and I don’t know where I’d be without their support. I also want to give a special shoutout to my mother and my bestfriend. My bestfriend of 5 years has been here through this whole process, she is such a big help with my brand and her support means everything to me. My mom has also been very supportive of me, from day one she has always told me that anything I want to do in life that she’d support me every step of the way.
