We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaime Ybarra and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaime, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
People and things I love. My husband. My daughter. My friends and family. I am happiest when I am around people I love. Additionally, doing things I love makes me happy. Travel. Food. Reading. My career. I am happiest when there is a healthy balance of relaxation and adventure with those most important to me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
LivingLocalHTX starting solely committed to showcasing food in the Houston area. However, my life has drastically changed! In the last 2 years I have become a mom, earned a Master’s degree in literacy specialization, and began my journey in educational leadership. While I am still VERY passionate about food, there are other things I experience as a working mama that I want to share with my followers. This transition from only food to more of a lifestyle page has been….interesting! It is very easy to take pictures of beautiful food plated by the best of the best. Showcasing my messy fridge and trying to get my daughter to smile for the camera…that’s another story!

I want everyone to know that what you see on LivingLocalHTX is THE REAL DEAL. I am not going to sugarcoat a dang thing. The content may not be perfect, but the sentiment is real: we are all in this thing we call life together.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First, I would tell my friend to come in the Fall or Spring! Houston is too hot and there are too many awesome outdoor spots to explore!

Must-see sights:
-The Waterwall! The photo ops, though.
-Hermann Park (Yes, we are adults and yes, we are riding the train.)
-HMNS. I LOVE this museum. I am a member so we would see permanent exhibits for free and get the limited engagements for a steal.
-Go see a game! I am partial to the Houston Cougars. Both Fertitta Center and TDECU Stadium are fabulous.

Must eat and drink spots:
-A brewery tour. Must see places: Saint Arnold, City Acre Brewing, Eureka Heights, and 8th Wonder.
-El Tiempo Cantina. CANNON BALL!!
-Taste of Texas. Where salad bar dreams come true.
-State Fare.
-Irma’s Original
-Hearsay in Market Square. They have my favorite appetizer in town- duck quesadillas.
-Drinks in Market Square. Warren’s, La Carafe, and Houston Watch Company top my list of favorites.
-A night of drinking in town ALWAYS ends with a slice from Frank’s.
-We would also head out to the burbs and enjoy a beer and a burger from Murdoch’s Backyard Pub.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not have the guts to continue this journey without the support of my husband Erickson, my friends, and my family. My husband humors me and goes along with me on food adventures, listens to my ideas, and poses for the camera. My best friends always listen when I need opinions and to bounce ideas off of them. My family smiles politely when I ask to take photos of their food before they can dig in! It takes a village!
