We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriela Towns and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabriela, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea for my business based on working for different companies and always having to upsell my clients upgrades. I didn’t like the idea of taking them out of their relaxation to mention all the things they need for a higher price. That’s when I decided to create different tiers with everything upfront and what can be included in your facial or services in general. My prices are set, so there are no surprises. That is something that I really wanted to incorporate into my business model That everyone can enjoy and get the best experience possible.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always had a love for the beauty industry. From starting as a make up artist, then being introduced to the world of skin care, my passion really took off. What sets me apart from other aestheticians is the environment I create for my clients. We have fun yet relaxing safe space for those who take pride in themselves. Everything is tailored to the client from the service to the music that is playing. Whatever they are needing that day we will provide. I got to where I am today through hard work dedication and of course, the help of family and friends. It has not been easy, especially since I decided to go to school and a few months later we were asked to stay home due to the COVID-19 lockdown thankfully I was able to To get my education that I needed before, we were asked to stay home as well as the school, providing lots of classes and seminars that we were able to attend that elevated our knowledge. I was able to get my first job in a med spa where I learned so much and I am so grateful for that opportunity Which inspired me to eventually have my own business. A major lesson that I learned along the way was make sure you listen to your clients and really listen that way you’re giving them the results they are looking for and being honest about it as well. I would like the world to know that with hard work, dedication research and some love anything can be done. You just have to believe it!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend was visiting for the week, I would start by taking them to a brunch first at cluch for some mamosas then we would go to hermann park and have a walk around the park. At night I would take them to showboat for a double feature at the drive in. Another day I would take them to the museum district to the butterfly exhibit then after I would take them for pizza at franks downtown! It’s my favorite pizza spot. Then after we would go for drinks around the corner at El Big Bad for some infused tequila. I would be a visit to Houston without going to Post for the day and trying different foods and seeing the events they’re having. On Friday or Saturday night, I would take them to Kamp to see what Houston nightlife has to offer That’s an experience on its own. On Sunday I would take them to a farmers market since there are so many so enjoy some great food, fresh fruits and veggies and some great crafts they have to offer.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to recognize my family and friends for their Support during this process. I lost my job which motivated me to start my business which then I found out I was pregnant. It was very hard to get things going under those conditions, but my husband Keaton, my daughter Harlow, my parents and some of my amazing friend Tieu, Sarah, Bri and Anh I was able to get things up and running from them helping me paint or sending me their friends and family to get my business up and running I don’t think I would have been able to do it without them. I welcomed my baby boy Karson in December which led me to close down for a couple months, but in February, I was up and running again upgrading my business with higher quality products as well as creating a more relaxing environment with elevated treatments and comfort during those treatments. I can’t wait to add more services and hopefully expand within the next five years so everyone can experience what Slay and Sooth has to offer!
