Meet Jake Burton | Tattooer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake Burton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jake, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I didn’t want to open another tattoo shop in Houston or a big city in general. Don’t get me wrong…Houston is a great city and I’m more than thankful for my time there and the opportunities that came with it. But I just love Galveston…it’s its own vibe…slower pace of living laid back island style. I love the beach and the long history of Galveston. But in 2023 i bought a house in Galveston county and the next step was to work closer to home. And i opened Broadway Tattoo Parlor on January 5th 2024

What should our readers know about your business?
I made Broadway Tattoo Parlor into what my vision of a tattoo shop ought to look like. It is a traditional walk-in tattoo parlor come on in and get one no appointment necessary but appointments available. The shop is covered in flash and artwork from around the county and world…..as well as plenty of our own hand painted flash. You can pick one of our designs or we can custom draw one for you. In today’s world where there are tattoo shops everywhere I feel so many of them look the same w little flavor like a spa or clinic. You won’t find another shop like this one and I’m proud of the work that I’ve put into it. And I believe that is what sets us apart. I always do my best to make a good tattoo and I won’t do it if I think it’s a bad idea or regrettable in the future but will work with you to turn your idea into something that you love and I can do in good conscience. Business wise this is my first tattoo shop I’ve been tattooing for over 30 years and I’m a tattooer by trade not a businessman I’m trying to learn that aspect but I believe what sets us apart is my understanding of tattooing and tattoo history. The years I’ve put into into practice and the fact that I treat everyone with respect that comes into my shop. My shop is in an old house on Broadway across from the old cemetery and is well lit with neon and hand painted signs I think it’ looks great every time I drive past it! Long and short come into Broadway Tattoo Parlor and you’ll get a great tattoo from some friendly folks in a great looking shop

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I love the beach so there’d be lots of beach time. There are great restaurants and coffee shops in and around Galveston. I always recommend Katie’s to visitors best seafood restaurant in Gtown….they never disappoint……San Leon…pier 6 or the top water grill….the oysters shrimphooley at Gillhooleys may be some of the best grilled oysters you’ll ever eat! Back in Galveston . The historic strand and downtown. I love history there are plenty museums the Bryan museum is great. And there are plenty interesting watering holes if having a few drinks is your thing….pineapple parlor is a really cool hideaway tiki bar…Great sandwiches at old moon deli downtown. Galveston has lots to offer it’s a great place.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
