We had the good fortune of connecting with Jameka Bingham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jameka, every day, we talk about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for my business came when I was working at a secular Radio Station in Houston. I was the Program Director and I created slots for Inspirational Sundays with BPG from 6am to 10pm. I had my own Radio Show and the other available slots I filled with Inspirational 1-to-2-hour live radio shows. I was introduced to a self-made Millionaire that wanted her own live radio show. As I was training her in the studio on our 1st visit, she asked me a very important question. She asked me what my dream was?!! Nobody had ever asked me that question before. I shared with her that my dream was to have an Inspirational Radio Station that aired 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. I said that I often wondered what others would do Monday thru Saturday for Inspiration. I felt that Sundays were not enough for the people. It was at that moment that she offered me space in her new office that she had gotten. Told me to go look at it. I did and found that this was the exact building that I had come to 3 years ago. She told me that she believed in me and that what I stated was very much needed. Boss Lady J was her name and she ended up passing away 4 to 6 weeks later. I was then led to look for my own space in that exact building and it is there that The BPG Inspirational Station was created.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career is in Ministry, Media and Life Coaching. What sets me apart is my heart to love for free without being judgmental. The ability to speak real talk at all times while coaching or redirecting my clients. I am so very excited about what God is doing in my life. Going from homeless to helping others. For me this was very easy because I learned to operate in obedience. I remembered all the teaching that was given to me. The encouraging words that my support team often gave me. I will say that at some points I still had to overcome challenges. One was being a single mother with 5 children and having to be the only source of income. This made me more determined to achieve all that I wanted to become. I continued to pray with my children and the blessings continued to come. I set short term and long-term goals for myself and stuck to the plan. I learned along the way that if you don’t believe in yourself that nobody else will. I also learned that if at 1st you don’t succeed, and you still have breath in your body to get up and try again. Most importantly I learned that it is okay to be different and do things differently. To be creative is a beautiful thing. I want the world to know that I don’t look like all that I have been through. I stopped running from my calling and gave God my “YES” and it was then that He showed me how my PAIN was going to PRODUCE my PURPOSE. My mission is to Encourage, Inspire and Motivate on a daily all of those that come in contact with me. The Big Pretty Girl (BPG).

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite spots in Texas know me very well and they treat me like the Queen of the World. I would take them to visit the Oasis in Austin. We would go sit by the water at Lake Travis and relax. In the next few days, we would go shopping at every Burlington and Ross in the area. Find the Red Lobster Restaurant and have dinner. Our hotel of choice would have to be in the Marriott family because I am one of their reward members. Travel to Katy in Texas and check in my favorite Courtyard Marriott by the Mall. In the days to come, Los Cucos for Mexican food, Fuddruckers for hamburgers and Pappadeaux for seafood. Last but not least, I would take my best friend to meet my Ministry Team and my Radio Personalities on our Inspirational Station. My Business Partner Adeseye Omole of Coble TV Studios would be a must see. Dr Paul Speights, my mentor, will be the last person I bring her to see. I know for a fact that he will have important words of wisdom to share with her.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout would have to go to Dr. Paul Speights. He is the President at Theos Spiritual Institute. I know that he was sent from God because he came at a time when others felt like I wasn’t called. He looked past my exterior and assisted me in understanding my purpose. He encouraged me even when I didn’t want it. Whenever I was in error, he made sure I was corrected and redirected. Many days he prayed for me and my family without me having to ask. The Spiritual Growth that I gained was given to me at his Institute. There has never been a time when I had a question that he wasn’t able to answer. To this day, Dr Paul Speights still supports all of his Mentees. We get regular weekly calls to check-in and see if we need anything. Dr. Speights makes sure he continues to be reachable. He is a very busy man in the Kingdom but still makes sure that we continue to be about our Fathers Business. He accepts nothing less from his Mentees. Dr. Paul Speights efforts, support, mentorship and encouragement is why I’m able to stand so boldly on stages and speak as real as I do with the love of God. The success that I have today is because my Mentor believed in me and never gave up on me and I am forever grateful.
