We had the good fortune of connecting with James Hastings and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi James, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
This business has taught me to stay true to who YOU are. You must stay humble in this business, because it can get to you. Stay true to your roots, don’t change for anything. Your hard work and dedication to your skill or your business will take you where you need to go at the right moment

What should our readers know about your business?
I categorize myself as a “producer | connector | storyteller” and also a team builder. I consult through my experiences and projects. I use my skills and connections to plug individuals who may have the skills but not the necessary connections or knowledge to plug themselves. I build teams that go on to produce masterful work and bring beautiful concepts/ideas to life.
It wasn’t easy, but it’s that persistence that does it. I knew I was coming up with great ideas and I knew I had the people on my team to properly execute them. Building a strong team is an everyday thing. New people come up , new ideas come about, new talent emerges every single day and when those people are confident in you and you’re confident in them, the team molds perfectly. This business can be very shady. You can’t just “take peoples word” for something. Make them show you the proof. If your name is attached to a project and you’re plugging other people in with you then it shouldn’t be a problem for them to show their work. Pull out proof of what you’ve done in the past, if you’re new to something then make a mock-up, but always have proof of what people claim they can do/can do for you.
I used to tell a story back in the day how people would always come up to me and tell me they’ve been working at something for 10/10+ years but when I’d ask, “well let me hear your demo” or ask for footage they didn’t have it. My problem with that then comes to, how’ve you been working at something for so long and have nothing to show for it. It doesn’t have to be professional grade but surely you have some type of home video of your talents or “expertise”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Two places that I would absolutely take a friend visiting are of course my comedy club downtown Fort Worth Texas 604 Main St, and then out on the lake on my boat.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to Brian Westbrook, my business partner over at Fokus Firm. He’s my voice of reason when it comes to some of these business aspects. He keeps me sane. Also special thanks to my grandparents, the late Daniel and Rosia Hastings, they are the ones you even instilled this drive and passion in me since a young child. So to this I owe all of this.
