We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Nicole and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, what matters most to you?
One of the core values that matter most to me is the principle of health equity. This principle has become not just a passion but a guiding force in my life’s work. Health equity is at the heart of my journey as The Natural HEALing Coach, and it’s a value deeply rooted in my own experiences.
For me, health equity isn’t just about ensuring that everyone has access to healthcare services; it’s about recognizing the profound impact of social determinants of health (SDOH) on people’s well-being. SDOH encompass a wide range of factors, including socioeconomic status, education, employment, housing, and environmental conditions. These elements often play a more significant role in an individual’s health outcomes than medical interventions alone.
My own journey with chronic illness, from the struggle of being a single mom trying to provide for my family while dealing with undiagnosed health issues to receiving diagnoses of Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and narcolepsy, has illuminated the intricate interplay between health and these determinants. I’ve experienced firsthand how access to quality healthcare can be limited by social and economic barriers.
Through my work, particularly as a board member at Bee Busy Wellness Center and founder of the AIP BIPOC Network, I’ve witnessed how these social determinants disproportionately affect marginalized communities. Systemic inequalities, such as disparities in education, employment opportunities, and housing, can lead to disparities in health outcomes, perpetuating cycles of ill health and inequity.
Recognizing the significance of these factors, I’ve made it my mission to advocate for a holistic approach to healthcare and health advocacy. This approach involves addressing the root causes of health disparities, advocating for policies that promote health equity, and providing support and resources that consider the multifaceted aspects of an individual’s life.
Ultimately, health equity matters most to me because it represents an opportunity to transform lives and create a more just and equitable world. It’s about recognizing that healthcare access and justice extend far beyond the doctor’s office and that we must address the systemic barriers that prevent optimal health. By working together to address these disparities and promote health equity, we can ensure that every individual has the opportunity to live a healthier, happier life, regardless of their background or circumstances.
What should our readers know about your business?
The Natural HEALing Coach goes beyond mere business; it embodies a profound commitment to a holistic approach to health and wellness that sets us apart. While we do focus on helping individuals manage chronic illnesses like autoimmune diseases, our mission extends far beyond that. We are dedicated to addressing the underlying social determinants of health (SDOH) because we understand that genuine health encompasses the broader context of one’s life. Our goal is to create an environment where everyone has the opportunity not just to survive but to thrive.
What fills me with the greatest sense of pride is the profound impact we’ve had on our clients and within our community. Witnessing individuals regain control over their health and enhance their quality of life is a source of immense fulfillment. It’s a privilege to be part of their transformative journeys.
The path that led me to where I am today has been far from easy. Balancing the responsibilities of being a single mom, managing my own health challenges, and building a business was a formidable task. Yet, these challenges served as fuel for my determination. I sought support and guidance from mentors like Norman Mitchell at Bee Busy Wellness Center and consistently embraced a mindset of continuous learning, adapting to the ever-evolving field of health and wellness.
Throughout this journey, I’ve gathered invaluable lessons. Firstly, I’ve come to realize that genuine success is not solely measured by personal achievements but by the positive impact we have on the lives of others. Secondly, resilience and unwavering determination are essential qualities when confronting adversity. Lastly, staying adaptable and open to new approaches is crucial in an ever-evolving field like health and wellness.
The message I aim to convey to the world about The Natural HEALing Coach is that we are here to make a profound difference. We are committed to promoting health equity, addressing the social determinants of health, and ensuring that every individual, irrespective of their circumstances, has access to the resources required for their health and well-being. We firmly believe that health is an inherent human right, and we are dedicated to tirelessly working towards a world where this right is realized by all. In alignment with this vision, The AIP BIPOC Network, founded in 2022, focuses on dismantling barriers to SDOH for the BIPOC community with autoimmune diseases. Through monthly roundtables and our mission to raise awareness, advocate for change, take action, assess needs, and improve access, we are making significant strides towards a healthier and more equitable future for all.
