We had the good fortune of connecting with Jana Warri and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jana, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I spent 12yrs cultivating a career in Finance and Accounting, which I love. However, I learned the hard way, you can exhaust all your energy on someone else’s business or things in contrast to your wellbeing, and have nothing left for yourself. My father is a Nigerian immigrant, with multiple businesses, and he boasts about never working for anyone else after completing grad school. So as a kid, I knew I was meant to explore my interests and be more than someone’s employee. Moving in alignment is my guiding principle and I never have the desire or energy to pursue something that does not honestly bring me joy and complement my natural aptitude for numbers, business and engaging with people. Real estate feels natural for me.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a native Houstonian and I love my city as well as the people in it. With that said, I do not passively “look for houses” or “look for buyers”. I pride myself on being a “power-connector” and really EARNING business. Whether connecting business objectives and revenue targets or bringing together buyers and sellers, I deliver real returns with quality and efficiency. My first job was in a library as an assistant. There, I learned some of the most valuable lessons that brought me success throughout my career; there is endless value in active listening, everyone just wants to feel heard and understood, and do not take things so personal. At the core, real estate is about leveraging my expertise to provide exceptional customer service, and I always want to be the kind of Realtor I want to work with; responsive, respectful and resourceful
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First, I believe in naps, so there will be time for sleep in this itinerary! I love seafood and nature, and Houston has plenty of both.
Monday: An afternoon exploring memorial park and Fusion Taco in the Heights for crab and shrimp nachos. These are literally the first thing I want after any trip, plus everyone loves their Margaritas.
Tuesday: Flow Yoga at Black Swan and Pistolero’s for “Taco Tuesday”. Some of the best Al Pastor tacos ever!
Wednesday: The MAG, black owned, art gallery and dinner at Traveler’s table.
Thursday: Post Houston and any activities occurring there. Waxaholic Thursday at Urban Social with one of my favorite DJ, DJ Big Reeks
Friday: A tour at Project Row Houses and Trez bistro and wine bar for happy hour.
Saturday: Bike ride and brunch day party at 5015. It’s a mood. That’s it, that’s the caption!
Sunday: Brunch at Eggcellence cafe for some of the best stuffed french toast EVER. Then, Jazz Sundays at Discovery Green. I love closing the week with a chill vibe and the city skyline around me.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As cliche as it sounds, my parents created the foundation for who I am and helped fuel my growth and success. My dad was and often still is the base line for my aspirations. He always affirmed my intelligence and ability to excel, but made a point to emphasize I can have anything I want as long as I am willing to put in the work and effort. My mom will encourage me to be an Astronaut if I expressed an interest, lol. She supports me endlessly and taught me to live without limits. As far as books, “Tools of Titans” is a cornerstone for success and optimization in both my personal and professional life.
