We had the good fortune of connecting with Janese Maricelli and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Janese, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always been an entrepreneur. I have always sought out opportunities and ways to better my situation. After graduating with a degree in marketing and a passion for design, I went into the corporate marketing game. Once I understood that relationships are at the core of all business, I decided that who better to manage my relationships than me? I now own two different businesses and pride myself on having quality relationships with my team and my clients.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I create digital commercial art for my Marketing and Design agency. I work mostly in InDesign and Illustrator however my work allows me to constantly try new mediums and concepts. After years designing for others, I was able to compile my interests into a bi-monthly magazine for the residents of Galveston. Culture Clash Magazine highlights something new and unique about Galveston culture. We are now in our 6th year of print and going strong!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Because I love all things island life, I would keep my buddy and my money in G-town. Galveston offers a variety of fun and exciting nightlife including burlesque shows, dance clubs, axe throwing, mechanical bull riding, and more. Shopping in the downtown Postoffice district offers a fun mix of hand-crafted artisan wares and amazing fashion. After a day on the beach, it is always fun to hit one of our many beach bars before heading out for a high-end dinner at Rudy & Paco’s or Number 13. No matter how long the stay, they is something fun to get into every day! Any of our festivals, are not to be missed. Come for Mardi Gras or La Izquierda and we will really have a ball!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout has to go to my incredible husband. Carter Thomasson is the one person in my life that has supported and encouraged my wild endeavors. There have been countless friends and fans that have given me love and confidence on my journey but Carter understands that in order for me to freely create and dream big, I need to know that I am safe and loved. He provides that love and safety so I can do what I do best, make magic!
