We had the good fortune of connecting with Jannet Evangelista and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jannet, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always enjoyed working in the customer service industry and after running Floristry Houston for over two years I noticed how people appreciated my work (talent).
During the time I worked at Floristry Houston I learned so much. I had the opportunity to be part of many events from beginning to end. I was involved in each step of the process from designing conception, building proposals, closing contracts, product sourcing, designing to deliver and striking at the wedding events.
Therefore, I decided to follow my passion and start my own company – Trendy Blooms! I wanted people to know who was behind all those amazing floral designs that made their special day such a magnificent moment and beautiful memory in their lives.
As everyone knows time is precious, after all it’s the one thing we can never get more of. My father passed away last May and I remember him telling me: “with that talent, if I were you I wouldn’t work for anyone else and I would start my own business” Starting my own business is a tribute to my dad who has always been such a great inspiration to pursue my dreams, to be great at what I do, but always stay humble.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, a lot of people focus on what they don’t have instead of the blessing they do have. I was one of them. I have battled with infertility problems for a long time and I have always wanted to be a mother. So, one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make was either to start a journey with IVF at my 40 years of age, and perhaps be disappointed with the results or to get my LLC.
I choose the second option to devote myself to build this company from the ground up and focus on the joy I can share with people through my designs. To this day, whenever I design a bridal bouquet, I channel my maternal side and make each bouquet with intention. I create the bridal bouquet as if it were for the daughter I may never have.
I consider myself a free spirit and I derive a great deal of fulfillment and enjoyment from creating. Being a flower designer allows me to create art with my own hands. In addition, being able to showcase these unique pieces in couples sacred union brings even more joy; that to me is priceless!
Moreover, having the freedom to express myself through flowers is something very special to me. I have never thought that working with flowers would bring me such happiness. There is something in my heart that burns like fire everytime I design a flower arrangement, perhaps it is what everyone simply calls passion.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
